Amazon Bans Its Drivers From Moving Their Own Lips Too Much At Work [Update]

Reply in thread

Heard about this a while back. I think the real explanation is that amazon wants cameras in their vehicles to monitor their drivers. But Amazon's insurer says "if you have this video we want to see it, and if your drivers are distracted in general, your insurance rates are going up" and/or when there's an incident, any evidence of distracted driving will be leveraged against amazon... so instead of getting rid of the cameras, they are micromanaging their employees not to be distracted while driving, where "distracted" includes talking on the phone and also singing or speaking.

It's all really shitty tbh.

I get that with a company as big as Amazon, small margins can make a big difference, but... pretty sure that's just an argument against giant fucking companies running everything...

Trump says he's unconcerned about other damaging tapes 'because I don't do things wrong'

So, in case you didn't know, this is literally like textbook fascist argument.

Rather than people being good or bad based on their actions, you're good or bad based on who you are.

This is why during the "grab 'em by the pussy" stuff Trump was painted as a good guy who did a few bad things, like saying some off-color stuff on tape.

This is also why you'll hear certain people say something like "That Bill Cosby, what a shame. Sure thought he was one of the good ones..."

...so you can come to your own conclusions about what type of person you have to be to be considered good or bad in the fascist world view...

...or actually I'll just say it. If you're a white Christian male you're predetermined to be good in the fascist world view. Everyone else is predetermined to be bad... or perhaps has to earn being good until even the slightest of mis-steps proves they were exactly who the fascists thought they were... (not that what Bill Cosby did was a slight mis-step, mind you).

Same reason laws are enforced more harshly on minorities.

That's a pretty good question and I've never sat down and wrote a list of things I like about it. First time for everything though...

[After writing out this list, I actually think doing something similar for favorite games would be a good way to get more content here]

  • In general, I'm drawn toward "engine building" games
  • there's something comforting about the game having a defined end after four rounds (rather than when some victory condition is met)... note that this doesn't necessarily mean the game plays quickly!
  • the end of round goals (one of the way you can score points) are randomized. This keeps things fresh
  • the "bonus goals" (which are another way to score points) are also randomized on a per-player basis, which creates an interesting asymmetry... all players are working to score points, but each player's path to that end is different
  • (i think this has a lot to do with the randomized nature of the end of round goals and bonus goals) plays great with just 2 people but also fun with 5-7 (6 and 7 player variants require the Asia expansion)
  • it may not seem like it at first but there actually can be quite a bit of player interaction
  • the artwork is really gorgeous... will have to take a pic next time we play for an example
  • the components are fairly high quality for the price point
  • despite the relative complexity/weight, setup and breakdown are really easy

Overall, I very much recommend it. That said, there are things i dont like as much about it

  • people are generally intimidated by the complexity the first time they play. I have found though that about 3/4 through the first game things start to click.
  • because it has a lot of randomization via card draw and dice roll, there is a fair bit of luck involved. Sometimes you just don't get the cards.
  • although there is some player interaction, I wish there was more. I think this is addressed in one of the expansions (but admittedly I haven't played all of the expansions)

The only game I like more is Terraforming Mars. I play it less, though, as it's a but longer and the folks I play with don't like it as much.

suggestions when you don't love a roast?

Use milk, not creamer. Even better, half and half.

Brew it really strong (espresso of you have a machine) and pour over ice cream.

Iced coffee with milk.

Regarding the flavor oils in the grinder, using something like "grindz" might help, as well as some sacrificial unflavored coffee.

Tutanota vs Proton Mail for daily use

I see you've more or less chosen proton.

Came here to say that I have been using tutanota for years now and it works very well.

It does fit the use case of encrypted emails to people who don't use tutanota. How it works is they will receive an unencrypted email letting them know they have an encrypted email waiting for them, along with a secure link to an https encrypted, password protected web interface with inbox and outbox.

Just wanted to point this out for anyone else evaluating privacy focused email providers.
