It's fucking stupid. Why not replace other letters with random characters then? Especially if there's no consistency in the way you use it. Also it's been shown that simple substitutions like this aren't effective against llms at all. Otherwise any random misspelling or typos would totally fuck them. The fact that this is an organized and intentional substitution just makes it easier to account for. It'd literally be one line of code.

1: all the pipes leading to my house are out of my control and will be sending the same temperature and purity of water regardless of what temperature I set the tap to? The water goes into my house, to the hot water heater, to the tap. Or just into my house to the tap. Either way whatever is outside of that is outside of my control and the hot water heater can't cause the water to retroactively absorb lead from pipes outside of my house.
And as for your second point. Running the kettle from cold takes like 4-5mins. Running the hot water to max temp takes 30 secs. Running the kettle with max temp water takes 1:30-2 mins. That's still like a 50% time savings, for a 500ml load. I haven't tried with larger amounts than that because I don't need more than that, but I assume that the greater the volume of water, the more time it would take from cold.

That's crazy, I've never heard that. I know our hot water heaters are kept high enough that bacteria can't grow, and every source I've found says the other risk is lead contamination, and we don't have any lead pipes in our house, so I'm going to assume this is an old outdated rule. Plus for the bacteria concern, it's being boiled again anyway.

Why are we so afraid of cockroaches?

Reply in thread

I think you're assuming that everyone has the same reactions as you do, but that's not true at all. I've never lived in a place with a heavy cockroach infestation but I've seen a few and they don't have that effect on me at all. I logically know they're a pest and gross, but I don't have any physical or emotional reaction to them at all. I feel like your fear is a learned response.

In Canada our electricity also only goes to 120v, but the simple solution for this is to utilize the already hot water from the water heater. The hot tap on full already comes out steaming. Add that to the electric kettle and it takes less than a minute to boil 500ml.

What's going on with Borderlands 2? Steam is giving it for free, but the game has 23% positive recent reviews.

What point are you trying to make? You say you're "all for calling this kind of fuckery out" but then you're criticizing people for calling it out? And who cares what other EULAs might say? The point is that the license agreement for this game and others owned by this company didn't say this shit before, and now they do. The company is actively making their user agreement more hostile to the users which is what people are pissed about.

This is why even though I love aquariums, I don't think I could have one. Like I get that the purpose of the image is to show that they have a much larger space than most other fish kept in aquariums, and that's a much bigger tank than most people have, but that still doesn't seem like a lot of room to live their entire life in. It just makes me sad to think about it.

This is what every pan in 90% of commercial kitchens look like, because aint nobody paying someone to sit thete and scrub them. They get run through the sanitizing dishwasher and then they're 'clean enough' and any other bits get burnt off/into the pan surface. So people saying this pan is clean arent really wrong, especially since the carbonized bits are almost definitely inert and non bacterial.
