The current president, who just barely won 2024, is still butt hurt he lost 2020. He wants to instill a sense unease and air of doubt of the accuracy of american elections in order to better rig them his party's way in the future via different multiple methods of control.

The majority of my daughter's teachers in primary and middle school gave out their numbers. Not all, and it wasn't a requirement, but the majority.

Not that I ever used them. Teachers work hard enough, they don't need to be available 24x7.

What even is the point of these agreements if the next president/administration can just come in and say “nevermind, we’re actually not doing that”. Can’t we get some sort of legislative process put in place around this kind of thing?!

Honestly, as someone who just got one, it's not really that bad. Just do it and treat yourself afterwards... it's absolutely worth it.

As a parent, I’ll say that while sure, I’d love to outsource “some of the tedious crap”… it’s their birthday. It’s literally the ONE TIME in the year it matters enough that you pay attention to your kid and plan things.

Like, you can phone in so much else, but it’s their fucking birthday. They will remember this crap and never let you forget if you screw it up.

Its such an insignificant amount of money to fund PBS. It's mostly paid by donations and sponsors anyway. If they really wanted to save taxpayers money they should look elsewhere first... but thats a harder question that might rustle a few of their own feathers. Not only do they try to take the easiest route that doesn't involve their side, but they want to make people think it's a win. PBS isnt greasing their palms, so out it goes.

I'd like to point out that even when this isn't true, the "major public improvement" tends to border one, close enough that it gets cut off from the surroundings and goes into financial ruin causing others to look at the neighborhood a few years later and THEN decide its property that needs to be "improved" (gentrified)... To the point that the original inhabitants are priced out of their own family homes.

One of those "whew, they dodged a bullet.. Of wait, they didn't" times that happens quite a lot.

Like, i can 100% see why this costs so much. The sheer amount of tech and R&D they crammed in a tiny-ish device for the immersive experience with multiple high resolution screens (including that external one) and all the sensors and multiple mobile processors and all that. Definitely a lot of expensive stuff crammed in that thing... but it's definitely a "just because they could doesn’t mean they should have" or that anyone would want it. Theres no reason outside of a few very small niche cases to warrant all of that and outside of those cases there's no reason anyone should buy it.

Like, they made a pretty awesome product in search of a completely non-existent solution.

The OP basically is saying: Monthly health insurance premiums == monthly subscription fees.

Honestly, there's a lot that goes into it, logistics costs, packaging costs, average usage, apparent value, etc. are all taken into account. The manufacturing and distribution cost of a 100ml bottle isn't really much less than a 250ml one. If someone see's a 100ml and 250ml sitting next to each other, with the actual price difference, they are vastly more likely to buy the 250ml... even if they're only going to use 75ml. It seems like a "better deal" and thoughts of "what if I need it for something else? I'm not driving all the way back here for it!". Combine that with "there's a finite amount of shelf space" and the grocer isn't going to want to stock both if 90% of the time people just buy the 250ml.

Honestly, with the economics of scale, the cost of gas, the machinery to fill twice or three times as many 100ml bottles instead of 250ml's, it might actually be cheaper to make and sell the 250ml's.

It all comes down to "Companies aren't dumb. They're looking to maximize profits with minimal inputs." There's likely a few good reasons for the sizes they choose.

Your music slightly quiets, you think you just heard the windows Bluetooth disconnect sound... but the music goes back to original volume and everyone looks at each other like "did I just hear something? Nah, musta be crazy" and you go back to driving while your trailer quietly passes you by in the right lane.

As someone who managed it for a while, WP as a platform isn’t horrendous, but there are definitely better alternatives depending on what you need to accomplish.

Sadly it’s still a defacto standard.
