I can talk about my experience, i tried to port pmos mainline for my galaxy a40 for a while, until the phone died :( it was not easy of course, but ppl on their supoort channels have always been helpful , and tried to help and even if i didn't finished the port because my phone died, i did my luttle contributions to the wiki adding missing infos, improve some of the steps, adding deatils, etc. I think that every little contribution will help them.

Also now there is a started port of a40 if anyone is interested to continue it, and also the code for uniloader to boot (kr if u have a spare a40 to donate :) )

So even if not technical, helps with visibility, donations, documentation upgrade, installation attempts i think will be all welcome.

About the bar level. Big problem is the lack j of standardization of those devices, and all the different and various lock they put around, so for this one I think the main issue is there should be more standardization or more regulations among various devicee producers , like is with pcs (i. e. Bios, uefi) . Where there aren't locked bootloader, or for installing alternatives u need to go through a satanic rite and sacrifice your youngest relative to unlock the bootloader. And tbh i think they are making a big effort in making all the process at least doable. E molte persone che seguo, che pubblicano videotutorial fanno cosi. Hanno la loro attivitá e vendono, la pubblicizzano, e allo stesso tempo condividono informazioni. Secondo me quella é il miglior modo di fare pubblicitá.

Quel che suggerisci te é appunto cercare di creare una comunitá intorno al tuo locale, ecco perche penso che in questo contesto il conectto di comunitá sia piu importante se vuoi farti pubblicitá che nei media tradizionali.

Mastodon penso mastodon.art (masto.art?) potrebbero andare bene. Cmq su mastodon esistono dei bot seguiti da molta gente che automaticamente fanno il boost di toot che contengono hastags tipo artandcraft, craftint, etc. Io ci sto provando a dare visibilità a piccole cose di artigianato che faccio, ovviamente rispetto a social piu grossi è più dura avere visibilità (e per ora sono esclusivamente su mastodon e pixelfed). Cmq ho notato qualcuno che inizia a seguirmi e commentare periodicamente. Mi ha anche generato 2 donazioni su kofi.

It depends on your skillset. Are you already familiar with development in general? Or linux?

For Linux yiu should know the basics of how to use it, basic commands, like mount, ls, cd, package managers for your distro, build programs from source etc.

Then you probably need to be familiar with git, if you aren't already

For contributing to open source games, well they could be written with different languages or engines, so you should familiar with them. And a good first step is bulding them from source!

And for your gamedev journey , if you want to stay truly open source you can try godot, with a python like syntax, and not hard to learn the basics and no royalties to pay.
