It's so hard to find new content and I'm getting sick of it
I posted this on reddit but those fuckers removed it immediately
Never have I ever used a platform whose algorithm is so "sticky" that I've exhausted my entire roundup of channels and shows, and it keeps getting harder and harder to find new stuff. Big part of this is how YouTube doesn't have categories, especially on mobile.
And before anyone says it, yes they do have a category sidebar. Shopping, Music, Movies & TV, Hype, Live, Gaming, News, Sports, Courses, Fashion & Beauty, Podcasts, Playables. That's it. That's the whole list. You want to find new cooking channels? Good luck, there's no cooking category. History? Nope. Science? Nothing. Your only option is to go into "Gaming" and get served the same giants with 10 million subscribers you've already seen a hundred times.
Like, I just want to find a channel that makes videos about woodworking or obscure history or literally anything I haven't seen before, but YouTube keeps shoving the same 8 creators in my face because I watched one of their videos two years ago. The recommended page is just stuff I've already seen and stuff I actively don't want to see.
And the search is somehow even worse. You search for a topic trying to find something new and instead of relevant results it just shows you the same channels you always watch. Search "game reviews" and the top results aren't new review channels you've never heard of, it's the exact same guys already clogging your recommendations, plus videos you've already saved to watch later. You're not finding anything new, you're just being shown your own watch history back at you.
Other platforms figured this out. Spotify has genre pages, radio stations, discovery playlists. Even TikTok, for all its problems, will occasionally show you something you've never seen before. YouTube just assumes that if you liked something once you want to see it forever, and if you've never seen something before that's because you don't want to. There's no way out of it unless you already know exactly what you're looking for, which kind of defeats the whole point.
And yes I know you can delete your watch history. That's not a solution. That's a band-aid.
**I just want to find new topics** who else has this problem?
Hypocrite No More! I Finally Stopped Paying for YouTube, and Quit the Addiction
Months after saying I was going to, I finally quit YouTube Premium. In doing so, I realized I had become addicted to YouTube without realizing it. This has been an eye-opening blog to write. Wasn't expecting such an existential crisis from my website, but here I am!

I've submitted a complaint about this to youtube's support forums, but thought it might be just as useful to post here and see if other people are just as annoyed. Support issue is at:
Text of the support issue copied below:
For the last few months my subscriptions feed has been clogged up with irrelevant suggestions at the top so I have to scroll down before I can see a list of videos my subscribed channels have uploaded in reverse chronological order, which is the one and only thing I want to see when I go to the subscriptions page, not whatever algorithmic slop youtube wants to feed me. I've tried looking for a setting to change the subscriptions feed back to what I want, but I can't find it. How can I contact staff to tell them I hate how this website is being enshittified into the ground?
YouTube is Awful. I'm Not Posting There Anymore.
I can no longer in good conscious continue to upload videos to YouTube. In the last year, the company has "donated" to Trump's Epstein Ballroom, allowed back dangerous anti-vaxxers they previously banned back, are using AI to alter videos without the creator's consent or knowledge, and so much more.

Are you annoyed Youtube scrolling to the top of the page when clicking timestamps? Install this and it won't scroll back up again.
Note:
This is intended for users who have a script that creates a floating mini player when you scroll down to the comments (video player always visible), or you simply want to listen to music while going through the timestamps.
Not the author of this script, but it just happened to suit my exact needs, so I thought I'd share it here in case anyone else has a similar use case.
Which videos you always keep coming back to?
What are some of your favorite YouTube video(s) that always pull you back?
Be it weeks, months, or years since you've last seen them, but you know you'll want to come back and watch them again.
I'm looking for specific videos you find great value in re-experiencing.
It absolutely doesn't matter what the video is, how many views it has, how long it is, or what it's topic and genre are - it just has to be something you'll always want to re-watch and experience from time to time.
It could be for nostalgia, sentimental value, memories, meaning, usefulness, something that cheers up when you're feeling down, something that inspires you, cracks you up, tickles your emotions, some vibe you really like, something immersive or anything meaningful enough that keeps you coming back.
My motivation behind this post is to potentially find some gems I still haven't discovered to add to my collection (and perhaps help others do the same).
EDIT:
I guess it would be fair I also share some of mine, both as examples and to share these finds with others who may also like them (some of my favorites, random order):

Alternative description of what I'm looking for:
Which video(s) do you love so much (and keep watching repeatedly) that you would want them backed up and saved offline in a hypothetical scenario of a global permanent internet outage?
YouTube testing showing likes instead of views in the main feed
YouTube started showing likes instead of views in my main feed today. Can’t say I like it.

Really cool video from @[email protected] i want to share.
All the faults with Youtube
- No AI regulations… which leads to lies, inaccurate info…
- Clickbait (false thumbnail )but thats a cliché at this point
- cannot private message the uploader
- comments get hidden for as many reasons as there are colors in the rainbow
- The absence of transparency between YT and the user,(ex: no notification when your comment didn’t go through)
- History for some weird reason actually only lists about 70% of watched videos ( last I checked)
- You cannot organize your subscribed channels into lists like in twitter
- i want a mode that only home page/ suggested videos are from channels that i am subscribed to..
- No dedicated page to manage Playlists, and the INABILITY to search playlists ,
- The Youtube app is just being deliberately borked , with every update theres more bugs and design/ UI SINS.
- i actually only receive notifications for some things but not others ( ex: number of likes) absence dislike button number for the public
- i need a million scripts/ browser extensions on desktop to make the YT experience a bit acceptable..
- Youtube's current philosophy of anti-developer for third party apps, and extensions/scripts
- Deliberately hiding the video title of deleted videos in playlists..
