Proof is in cheaters existing on day one of battlefield 6 open beta. Client side anti-cheat will never work. It's good to have some basic preventative measures client-side, but server-side anti cheat is the only way to properly prevent cheaters.

Unfortunately companies keep investing in garbage client side anticheat that just pokes security holes into our machines.

Only Valve to my knowledge is investing money into their server side anti cheat, no other big player is to my knowledge.

Maybe the more copilot is used, the more code on github is ai garbage, ths more copilot trains on github, the worse it gets.

Probably quite a lot of other things too, but I haven't used it so I don't know if it has got worse.

Zohran Mamdani, in the New York City mayoral debate: "Free buses would cost $700M. Cuomo gave more—$959M—to Elon Musk for a failed Tesla factory."

Reply in thread

I think free busses would have a return in investment (apart from quality of life).

A better connected city, transport wise, opens up new job opportunities or places to go for citizens, which can increase tax revenue.

More people using busses also means less cars (probably) and by extension, less pollution, which can save costs.

I'm not sure how much of a return those, and probably other stuff would give, but I think it's more than nothing.

Maybe someone knows better.

Valve Announces New Steam Machine, Steam Controller & Steam Frame

Reply in thread

Luckily unlike monopolies in other sectors, Steam doesn't involve itself in evil oractices that more or less stops others from competing.

Someone just needs to make a better store, but they can't because no company big enough to compete is willing to be as user friendly.

Epic, probably the second biggest store people thing about, can't even make a good platform. They try underhanded practices like bribing developers and customers... maybe they should make their store work properly first.

EU Chat Control didnt pass - proving the media got to alot of you

Maybe I don't understand, but the fact there is a vote for it (or even just talk about it) is enough for me to warrant everyones immediate action.

I'm glad the media got this to our attention asap, because we were able to react quickly (and stop this.. hopefully its stopped and wont continue or come back).

Edit: commented then read others, think ppl agree with this and they say it better than I have.

P.s. i really don't like this post and hopefully it doesn't change anyones mind about action on this type of stuff in the future.. we need action and to keep fightijg to keep our freedoms.

Introducing Proton Sheets

Reply in thread

100% agree with your take.

Why scare people looking to ditch google with stupid stuff like "but they complied with the government", bruh google complies with anyone who has their wallet in-hand.

ProtonMail is a free inbox and is privacy friendly. Yes there are other options, but this isn't a bad one by any means.

Meanwhile at Microsoft

Sorta related, i found a copilot pull request (merged) on an npm project repo and I was so disgusted I wanted to delete the dependency and do my own thing manually, but alas this was at work and my time on this earth is finite (for now)

(I just wanted to share this)

Wow, it has really slimmed down!

Does this really sell phones? Why don't you make it match the camera bump, even just a little bit and give us back the aux and maybe more battery life.

Of course they won't do that because then they wouldn't have an excuse to force us to buy their expensive bluetooth earbuds.

They even do Price Discrimination on video games now

The future we are headed towards if we don't start caring about privacy and where we hand out our data.

Obviously Playstation has their own data, but stuff like this is gonna start being way more obvious in other places because they can so easily buy data on you through data brokers.

Websites you visit saying they share your data? Yes they sell it and it's directly going to have an effect on other parts of your life just like this.

So you won't just "pay with your data", you'll pay with your money too in a less direct way (prices on other sites shooting up because x website sold your data to y and they know you need this product so they price gouge you).

Not only will this occur for gaming stores or web shops, it can become a thing in banking (maybe they give you a worse interest rate on a loan, etc) and worse.

It sounds like her dad taught her the general advice, but she learned (herself) through using the advice that specifically sexual harassers stop laughing when you ask why their "jokes" are funny.

So both can be true as I'm understanding/reading it.

4chan refuses to pay UK Online Safety Act fines, asks Trump admin to intervene

I hope this encourages more companies/sites to fight back against stupid laws. If most keep complying, it'll only get worse for them in the future when they make even worse laws.

Pull out all UK servers and ignore uk fines (assuming thats legal wherever u reside... idk how that works) or just pull out of uk.

I hope a country like switzerland or something lets companies host servers there for europe without enforcing dumb laws from uk/european union.

The Privacy Iceberg

Yeah i hate when I see people using Brave, because they have been brainwashed.

Does anyone remember when they were injecting their own referral links into links for online stores (99% certain they did this pls prove wrong if you know better)? This alone leaves them with 0 trust in my books.
