Reddit CEO: We're Sticking With API Changes, Despite Subreddits Going Dark

You'll have to wait. Reddit took a long time to get to where it is now. Lemmy can get there too, but it won't be overnight.

They also could have saved money by remaining a link aggregator/discussion board instead of deciding to host media as well. Any surge in costs is their own fault.

What is an underrated feature to look for when buying a house?
Reply in thread
Piggy-backing on that, check who your ISPs are at that address. I didn't and then discovered Comcast had a monopoly on my area :(

The major corporations will come. what then?
If Meta or Google tries to buy your instance, you can migrate to another one. They can't buy them all up.

Mates, today without warning, the reddit royal navy attacked. I've been demoded by the admins.
Reply in thread
I get it though. Lots aren't losing Reddit, they're losing the communities they found on there. It can be hard to give that up, almost feels like moving away did as a kid.

Dualboot with Linux Mint and Win 10 Pro. How to stop Windows 10 from overriding my boot order in BIOS on every restart?
SOLVED: So the boot order was correct in UEFI, but for some reason CSM was disabled. Re-enabling that now causes GRUB to appear, and the PC boots into Linux without any other input. Thanks everyone!

Then you can move to another instance or host your own. They can't buy them all up.

It's still "fun", but

Reddit is also almost 20 years old. Lemmy's like what, maybe two? Reddit wasn't super great in 2006 either.

You guys are awsome :)
At first I was disappointed a lot of redditors were pushing back on lemmy because of what that would mean for growth, but I've recently missed the days when the internet was harder to access.
Maybe that means I'm an elitist, or maybe that I'm just tired of people being shits everywhere.

Planning for the future - a flaw in the design of Lemmy (and Kbin)

The ability to create multis could solve that. I could make a local Edinburgh multi, sub to both of the communities, and view them together in one feed for example.

Lemmy - Why did you leave Reddit?
Reply in thread
I'm with you, I've been using RiF around a decade now. I'll probably occasionally use old.reddit if I need help with a google search, but it won't be something I reflexively check anymore. I hope all the fragmented communities can find each other again on here.

Subreddits you are going to miss?
Reply in thread
Seems like no matter what, the communities that were on reddit are fragmented. Some people stay on reddit, some quit social media, and some get scattered across two dozen lemmy instances. What a shame.

Redundant communities across instances
Reply in thread
You're right. After almost a decade and a half on reddit, I'd forgotten that it also had a learning curve when I first came across it.
I guess that speaks to how terrible the official reddit app is, I'd rather learn a whole new site with a whole new framework than view reddit without RiF is Fun.

How hurtful will be using Reddit revanced app and advertising to use it will be to Reddit?
reddit revanced app? Is this a new 3PA that doesn't use the api?
