Let's say the worst case scenario happens with kbin and Meta. What are some alternate sites/instances that would be more resilient to enshitification?
uh well, i dont understand... you are able to self host these services. you can self host a Masto instance, a lemmy instance, and a kbin instance. you aren't tied to big tech just because a large instance has federated with big tech... so i don't see how "Mastodon has caved". i am on mstdn.social and the admin is blocking Meta from the start as Threads is not allowed to operate in the EU at the moment (exception is London, right?)
either self host or find an instance that isn't federating with big tech. you don't have to run anywhere.

FYI, Lemmy and Kbin are Progressive Web Apps, meaning you can install them as regular apps to your phone's home screen
this was the first thing i did upon discovering kbin.. and I use it for a lot of other sites too, namely forums and the like.

Is there a computer game, or a specific moment, a fight etc that you wish you could do fresh with no prior memory of it?
Reply in thread
Far Cry 3 was a leap from previous titles, and the formula hit so hard that the subsequent offerings (4, 5, and now 6) have basically not deviated from that formula - for better or worse. 11 years later, that formula has gotten quite stale but back in 2012 it was so fresh and exciting i didn't even play another game for the entire year. and this was only one year post-Skyrim. ah... good times...

I'm sure you're all wonderful people, but how can I play the game without encountering anyone else?
hopefully a toggle will be added to hide player names in the future. for now, there isn't a way.

Anyone know of an RTS that plays well on Steam Deck?
mentioned in another comment, but Halo Wars is fantastic on the Deck. also, Command and Conquer Remastered plays well with some controller configuration.

can you sort by Newest automagically for your Homepage? or will the default always remain Hot?
Reply in thread
thats for the default landing page: All, Subscriptions, Favorites, and Moderated. I'm looking to extend this functionality to be able to browse by newest as opposed to hot for this setting. its only a click away but, i dont know i guess i'm lazy.

Which is the first PC game that blew your mind?
Reply in thread
i was tied between WoW and Diablo 2 for what blew my mind the most. WoW was also my first MASSIVE multiplayer game, i am still amazed my mom's laptop actually ran it XD

What are you reading this week? [6/18/23]
i've started the Halo books. i finished Fall of Reach a couple of weeks ago and am onto The Flood. i've also dipped my toes into the Dune series and also the Witcher series, beginning with The Last Wish. in high school i read a book every other day and slowly tapered off as i went from reading for pleasure to reading for work as i became a Lit major in college. it skewed my love for books in a big way and i am trying to get back to reading for fun.

i have noticed... different authors if i remember correctly off the top of my head. The Flood being based on Halo CE (or vice versa? not really sure) gives it more of an "action movie on the page" kind of feel to me.

I'm just about to finish Halo: The Flood and move onto either Halo: First Strike or The Last Wish (since the new Witcher season is coming up).

The official Blizzard forums for Diablo 4 are toxic as hell (pun intended)
you should not go to the Diablo 2 forums on bnet either XD
