Seattle year round commuter. For my current short commute: a rain cape (poncho).

• it's comfortable to wear both wet and dry
• easy on/easy off. Less fucking around trying to get geared up.
• I don't sweat through my clothes because it ventilates like crazy

So many more reasons, but good lord those 3 are reason enough. Putting on still-wet gear at the end of the day is nasty.

I also wear rain-legs. I wear wool socks and sneakers (1 less piece of wet gear to deal with). No gloves (cape deals with the rain and wind).

If I read it right: the government is paying for commercial (phone) location data. There are 3 issues:

• creepy: the government shouldn't have this
• costly: they are buying it with our tax dollars
• comprehensive (?): They are getting everything (money can buy)?

If the government were to require this (like via a search warrant) rather than pay for it it would go through a mountain of legal oversight. It seems like the interpretation is: commercially available = publically available.

I guess what I would want to know next is: who gets access to this?

An earlier post pointed out: federated sites seem like they will suffer against central content in a SEO world - regardless of whether they are technically indexable.

I wonder if lemmy should have a SEO friendly federated site... .com domain, robots.txt and everything else...
