Being emotionally available is underrated

The fellowship, especially the human members were made up of aristocrats doing things for honor and Valor. But most humans in 4th age me were living in squalor, a shell of a former great empire and people. Even the movies did a decent job of showing the distrust, violence and squalor and curruptability of average men.

All that said yes show less toxicity and more role model responses to hard situations is a good idea. But drama sells.

It's time to admit Lemmy has won the "the biggest reddit alternative" award, why it's time for all of us to consider supporting it (here's why) + reopening r/LemmyMigration

They are in denial, it was an amazing place and still is in some ways. I went from loving it to realizing it was basically a walmart that helped drown out the mainstreet web. Small forums and irc chats may be too much to moderate now that so much of humanity is online, and it is truly suprising people are willing to mod sites for free that prioritize monetization over community and sustainability. Sure mods power tripped 20 years ago, but in many ways it was easier to find an alternative run by sme's or fans of whatever that just did it for community. So much so they donated their time and money.. but now,, Why spend money when you can create a sub / community. But then you are stuck with that platform as it evolves. It took me a while but i finally accept defederation is as critical as the knowlege base that we all helped create.

YouTube ad.

Reply in thread

Far more interesting youtube creators than almost everything on television, esp. after the writer strike. Less commercials, skip capability, que capability. Television has been obsolete for many of us for over a decade. I honestly don't understand why anyone still pays for cable unless they are over 70.

Yoyo is more of a consistency issue imo. Calories in calories out is all of it. If you are yo yoing weight you are changing something at each end. I have always had that issue on diets until IF because life happens and you lose routine. With if I just dont eat unless I know its time, and my stomach is small so I fill up quicker. I bounced 230-270 for a decade. Now maintaining 190-200 and thats mostly water weight bouncing.

GTA 5’s story DLC was scrapped because GTA Online was a ‘cash cow’, cinematics editor claims

Reply in thread

With a simple NPV calc it's obvious why the dlc is a complete waste of time. I mean we could easily afford to hire another team that will quickly provide positive cashflow, but then the producers are going to wonder if consumers are spending less on x because of y, and x is what we used to project future revenue numbers to our board. If we don't reach the x projection and I get canned then I'll always regret having tried y. I mean sure y superceded all expectations, and made millions, but it also had like 800k in overhead. We should probably just lay of 300 developers who are willing to work 60 hour weeks for 40 hours of pay and decrease the level of qa/QC time on x so we can get started on x2 and push into prod, nevermind the bugs. Also I'll need you to work Sat because the system keeps throwing exception errors

The Real Threat to Free Speech Is Coming From the Right

Reply in thread

Yeah cool, you decide what your property gets to do since you're responsible for them. Government, nor your doctor shall stop you from telling your creation what is right or wrong, if you eat paint for breakfast because eating plants and animals is evil/poison, thats your right as a free man on the land. Best to start early too, so they dont have the faculties to question it later on.
It's not like there are bad actors and tens of thousands of ai gemerated fake news to sway popular opinion with branding and politics. And its totally a boon for a society when we can isolate ourselves in thought bubbles and share as few values as united people as possible. Really helps us maintain our financial security and opportunities for quality of life, standards for education and licensing for professionals responsible for life altering decisions. Its not like devaluing those professional opinions im mass will lead to bad things; what do they evem know, they didnt even study at Facebook UNIV?

The idea and value of freedom is great, but there are thresholds that cross into ignorant arrogance that causes individual and systemic harm. I know gov can't solve this, but i fully believe it has a role to play in helping set standards that reduce harm, even for your kids.

He's a lawless, fascist murderer.

The Christians, at least during the 3rd crusade fought because they knew the crusaders would murder them despite being Christian. King Richard 'the lion heart' had entire towns brutally murdered for mere convenience. Christians looked to Saladin since he was their refuge from the europeans and when he sacked cities didnt banish or commit genocide. Saladin ended up losing his support in the end because he limited his army from pillaging.

Anon finds a plot hole

Furthermore men were no longer as "pure" in the 2nd/3rd age legends. The numenorians initially lived hundreds of years, were stonger had a more advanced civ. Etc. It all crumbled and then even those that survived and rebuilt mixed with humans that resulted in shorter lifespans, etc. By the movies it was basically the dark ages.

Not My Castle, Not My Monkeys.

IDK about this one. The sequel (which is definitely canon /s) she lives in a mental institution from her severe delusions. at the end of the original she wakes up from her episode surrounded by loving family and all of those broken fantasy men are farm hands concerned about her. - just a joke

New York’s Vessel to reopen with steel-mesh safety measures after suicides

Reply in thread

Sounds like most famous structures in the city. When it was built the locals called it classless and gaudy, including the empire state and wtc. this thing doesn't do much for me but it's different and one more thing that makes an aging NYC distinct against new cities with modern architecture. Sure it's a symbol of wealth and greed. So we're some of the greatest works left from the Renaissance. However This chapel to euthanasia could be closer to wall Street.
