LTT does another Linux Challenge
I don't understand how these tech people can be so bad with researching things and then installing a distro.

Parents opt kids out of school laptops, ask for pen-and-paper
Reply in thread
Teacher here: In my classroom I'm purposely moving towards pen and paper. Each middle schooler has a Chromebook and it has wrecked their brains (along with social media and phones that they are on outside of school.) You leave them to do an assignment and they will be on a game in 10 seconds unless you keep on them. Tech needs to be used, but right now it is killing any curiosity and stamina for learning that they have left.

Professors Say AI Is Destroying Their Students' Ability to Think

Teacher here. It's not that they can't think, its that they don't want the take the time to think and learn.

Bill Gates is a horrible person.
Billionaire being a selfish person? Who woulda known? But yes, even though he donates a lot of his wealth, becoming a billionaire is a sign of being a sociopath.

Roku OS’s home screen now features a large, permanent ad
Are there any TVs nowadays that don't advertise to you? I bought a Hisense about 6 years ago because it supposedly didn't advertise. 2 years into getting the TV it advertises now. Any suggestions for a TV that just lets me watch?

Mailbox is pretty good. The UI is a bit clunky, but so far I like it.

True, but the resistance to think is more than it was ten years ago when I started teaching.

Were the codecs annoying in Kinoite? I always got thrown off because Aurora came with "batteries included" so I figured Kinoite would be a pain, but maybe its not.

This is what I do. I’ve had history turned off for a few years now. It’s also helped curtail my watching if YouTube since it won’t recommend more stuff.

It's not that there are games on them. It's that they can find games online to play.

I also wanted to try Aeon. I always had issues installing Tumbleweed though. But it looks super nice.
I want to try distrobox as well. Never used it before but I was just reading about it and thinking if I can benefit from it.
For some reason rpmostree always confused, but I'm the type of person to overthink things. Just using flatpak seemed easier, but I know you can pretty much just do that in Silverblue.

Yea. I guess I always assume people are genuine, but it is a group who care about entertaining more than teaching.

Yeah, I feel like 9/10 vanilla is best. If the developers of the DE are good it should work clean out of the box.

Why go through the trouble to use Arch?
With Archinstall its really easy. You still need to be familiar with the Wiki, but its not hard. Tedious maybe. And running all vanilla software is nice. No distro modification.

is there any reason to try CachyOS over EndeavourOS or are they pretty much the same?
It really comes down to how much you want already set up. Archinstall = base system with DE / Endeavour = base system with helpful scripts / Cachyos = Full System
All of them work. How much work you want to put in and how close you want to stay to Vanilla.

Cool. Currently I try to use Mobile Pay for everything, but the privacy is more important for me. I'm on IOS right but I'm tired of Apple and hate Google's privacy policies. So I'll def get a refurbished Pixel and try out Graphene. Thanks!

Are you pretty much able to do everything you need? I don't even love using my phone but when I use it its kind of critical. Things like maps while driving. Does that work alright?
