Pasta drying, Italy, 1929
Look how young the children were when they would send them deep into the pasta mines. Back then, they didn’t even use proper ventilation. They would frequently end up with gluten lung.

They were basically illegal until 1982. It was considered, and I believe still is, market manipulation.

New lawsuit possible, lawyer says, after Trump renews attack on writer who won $83.3 million award
Imagine for a moment that you are president of the United States and you are given an intelligence briefing with information that is vital to an allied nation's safety. Under no circumstances are you to share this information with anyone. You are then in a candid two-hour conversation with a jovial diplomat from a nation hostile to that other nation. If you didn't keep your wits about you, you might accidentally discuss the secret information.
Donald Trump is not a man who has ever had his wits about him.

This speaks for itself
It's the subtler version of hostile architecture. You know how they designed benches to be impossible for homeless people to sleep on? They do not want a customer to stay at the building after they have made a purchase. It is more efficient if the children do not come inside and a new customer can take their place. The building is not made for humans, it is made for money.

Man dies at 27 from heat exposure at a Georgia prison, lawsuit says
In Albany, Georgia on July 20th, 2023, the relative humidity at 94 F was 54%. As someone who's experienced dry heat vs humidity, I wanted to offer that context. Sweating just doesn't cool you down as the humidity rises.

I've been impressed by her ability to actually get things done. She's been getting community programs funded in her district that accomplish Green New Deal goals but doing it silently without attaching Green New Deal wording anywhere. She got other representatives running similar programs in the same way. I respect someone who is willing to speak up but also believes in their mission enough to do it quietly if that's what it takes.

Anybody watching the US Presidential debate right now?
Reply in thread
He spent a lot of his presidency watching Fox News and ignoring his briefings. Staff figured out pretty quickly that he likes pictures and compliments and tried to use those to help him get through minutes of material.

And this is a massive increase in authority for the courts. If there is ambiguity in the wording of a law, it's open for a lawsuit.

Trump Directly Blames Harris and Biden’s Words for the Latest Attempt On His Life: ‘Their Rhetoric is Causing Me to Be Shot at’
I've been thinking about why the assassination attempts have only just now started. I wonder if they become more likely when a politician or celebrity is seen as weakening in favor as opposed to when they are on the rise.
