Is there really no viable alternative for Photoshop on Linux?

Nothing currently can compete with Adobe Photoshop. Unless they port it to linux. It would take open source devs serious time to catch up to Photoshop development. Plus without making millions of dollars for decades, the development of another application of that scale and complexity would be a serious undertaking. That said GIMP as you know is probably the best "alternative". For me I just dual-boot and use windows for basically Adobe Suite. All other times I use linux. However I learned GIMP a long time ago so I am comfortable using it for what it can do, and I'm probably faster in GIMP than PS. I am not a professional graphic designer etc. though.

In every reported case where police mistakenly arrested someone using facial recognition, that person has been Black

Reply in thread

In the documentary Coded Bias, the police in England were utilizing new AI facial recognition technology to find criminals on the streets and yes they were almost all black. The documentary states that it is because the models were trained on mostly white people so it couldn't differentiate black peoples features as well. Or something to that affect.

im really impressed by the projects that continue to exist. since the "mainstream" dawn of desktop home linux (circa 2004?) so many open source projects that were critical for the user base ecosystem to find linux daily-able are still going. open source is awesome. from a user perspective, i am not a developer, i hate and suck at 'coding'...but im so appreciative for the developers and maintainers of the vast amounts of code that exists in the linux open source space...badass
