Rental property billionaire says buying a home (with a mortgage) is "fancy bullshit" and you should rent instead

Aight let's see. Mortgage is a fixed rate over an agreed upon term that ends with you owning the property, rent increases every year, you have no control over the property and you get fucked constantly.

Yup, totally the same thing.

Also my mortgage for my 1/2 acre property with 1500 sqft house is $50 less per month than my 900 sqft poorly constructed "high end" apartment rent was about to spike up to. You know, after renters protections were removed during the pandemic.

Quick edit: furthermore, it took me until I was 30 to buy a house. In that time I spent 170k in rent, when I started renting the property I'm currently living in was worth 140k. That's pretty easy math right there. Just like... Come on.

No more drunk driving? US to force carmakers to adopt life-saving tech by 2024

Reply in thread

Even worse, let's say you are having a weather based emergency like what happened in Texas last winter... And the winter before and will probably happen again this winter... You've hooked up your vehicle as an emergency generator. But you can't turn it on because of this sensor.

You're not even trying to drive, you're just trying to get some power to your HVAC system so you don't freeze to death.

Sure, that's just one example and it doesn't happen every day, but this thing could prevent successful outcomes in multiple emergency situations.

We're better off investing in proper public transit rather than this shit.

Sanders says he doesn’t know that a ceasefire is possible ‘with an organization like Hamas’

Reply in thread

WRT the wall at least:

Hamas's goal from securing power in 2007 has been rejecting the two state solution and destroying Israel leading to many many attacks since then so, maybe securing the border isn't an insane idea? I mean, fuck all good the wall did recently but still.

Hamas doesn't control the supply of food, water, and goods into Gaza. Israel does.

Slightly amend that one, Egypt also supports the blockade. That being said, it's not the fault of all the civilians in Gaza that people voted in 2007 to let a terrorist organization take over and things went poorly because of it. This blockade needs to end. Humanitarian aid needs to be able to get to Gaza.

Is it normal that I feel pretty bad for ignoring homeless people begging for help? How do others ignore them without feeling bad?

Kant had a point there, but I think he also fails to address the problem.

The existence of charitable organizations means that the government has failed that group of people. Charitable organizations are extremely inefficient and sometimes are prone to the exact problems he brings up with donating directly to individuals, or they may prioritize certain individuals with certain religious beliefs over others.

Charitable organizations need to be folded and replaced with government programs. We don't need to be paying CEOs salaries when we're just trying to help someone on the street.

HOA banning dogs on grass - suggestions?

Reply in thread

HOAs have excessive rights especially newer ones and this is probably actually legal. The city likely owns none of it btw.

HOAs are a blight on American home ownership, John Oliver did a segment on it, but new HOA contracts are crazy if you haven't had a peek at one.
