Amsterdam bans cruise ships to limit visitors and curb pollution
Reply in thread
The difference is tourists don’t sleep and eat on the plane. Cruise ship tourists don’t spend as much money in cities.

Other than blue bubbles, why do you use iPhone?
I don't care at all about the bubbles. I don't use iMessage at all, 0.

Can we get an option to turn off blur NSFW?
It’s coming. There is some infrastructure work that needs to be done before it but it’s almost there.

Is there a way to personalize your feed?
Reply in thread
No, let’s say you’re subscribed to 2 communities. One is very active and the other one is not too much. In that case the popular one would always dominate the feed. But there could be an option to mark a community as “important” so you see more of it.

haptic feedback?
Not possible on IOS. But can be done on Android.

wefwef is so good it should be an app and not a web app
Reply in thread
No. The browser (which is the runtime that pwas use) is already a very limited environment with little to access to the system - and if the app wants to access something potentially sensitive, then the browser asks for permission. Even then it doesn’t have access to nearly anything that a native app can access.

Dave The Diver's Trajectory Means Everyone Will Be Playing It By End Of July, Maybe
Is it that good? I don’t know what it is really but like all my friends are talking about it. And steam really wants me to play it; every page has it.

Use incognito mode
I’m not sure how firefox does it but I don’t think pwas themselves have control over this. Sounds like a feature request for firefox to me.

I found a way on IOS :) But you'll need Safari running on Mac.

Overall I ended up changing a couple of Android devices within the same time frame that I’d be using a single iPhone. I have an XS which is a ~5 years old device and will get the 17. And it’s still a very capable one.

iOS Updates - Creating additional Home Screen icons
How exactly does the update feature work? Why, if it’s a web app, do I need to update at all? Doesn’t it just auto update when you load the app?
Not exactly. It’s a “web app” in the sense that it’s using web technologies. But the code bundle is stored and served locally via service workers. So for example even if you don’t have internet connection, you wouldn’t see the browser error page. The app still runs and shows it’s own errors.

On bringing more users to Lemmy
Reply in thread
Dunno. I am technical and one of the reasons that kept me on reddit so long is the amount of non-technical people there. I enjoy talking to technical people but almost all my real life friends are like that and for me reddit was a place where I could discuss niche -non technical- topics.

As of now, there is no way for pwas to rebrand themselves on IOS. The only way is to reinstall - and lose local data.

Kayaking is for kids too !
Reply in thread
Thanks. Yeah we go together with him on a double seater quite often. We are a family of three so it’s 1 double and 1 single when we are together. When we talk or when he mimicks paddling, he seems to understand what’s going on. That’s why actually I was wondering if he can handle it himself for short sessions at the canal. But in any case; when I checked the available options for children’s kayaks it looks like our main limitation right now is gear. There are not too many kayaks for someone who is 100cm :)

How old are they? Our kid is 4.5 years old now and I was wondering when would be a good time to introduce.
