Anyone familiar with older Dell PowerVaults?

You probably need to reset the configuration on the controllers. I'm not familiar with that particular unit but older ones had serial ports that you could plug in a cable to and would either have a firmware prompt for commands or a menu system that you could interact with to do things like clear errors or reset the configuration.

What do you host for your finances and why!

I use hledger mostly because of the plain text format. I came from YNAB as well but I just hated how you couldn't easily undo changes or see when you made a change, etc. This is so easily to track changes and you can add comments explaining your reasoning around things and you can keep everything in source control so you have all the power of that as well. Not for everyone but if you're a programmer or just comfortable on the command line it's great.

How do you blow your nose?

One at a time. I also can focus the energy on either the more front of the nose or the back of the nose towards the throat. I wish I could explain how but I cannot and it would be good if my kids could do it because it can help a lot.

Private digital photo frames?

I'm about to try this. I've ordered a Frameo picture frame that runs Android and supposedly you can use adb to sideload Immichframe and set it as the home app so it launches automatically. My Immich instance is on a private mesh network so I was going to configure the frame to autoconnect to the mesh network and only have permissions to access that one machine.

If I cannot get this to work, I'll fail back to just manually loading the pictures on an SD card and swap out the card for one with new pictures when I visit.

As much as I love the idea of the laptop, and as much as I want one, I just can't seem to justify it over my current Lenovo T480. Other than a faster/newer processor, I'm not sure that I'd

I went from a T480 to an 11th gen Framework and while I appreciate the upgradable design and better portability, honestly, I could have easily continued to use that Thinkpad as my main machine. If you don't need the upgrade, save your money and drive that T480 into the ground. It's a fantastic machine, as is the Framework.

Looking for Self-Hosted Budgeting Tools Similar to YNAB

Not sure if you're into command line tools but I'm using hledger and have emulated pretty well the YNAB envelope method and I'm liking it quite a bit. Using plain text for transaction journals is amazing and has solved some of the ambiguity I felt when using YNAB. Tons of information here for this type of accounting method. And look here specifically for implementing the envelope method with these sorts of tools.

No phone apps are available as far as I know but depending on your technical expertise you could provide reports from a webpage pretty easily.

Laptop companies: which one?

Reply in thread

Yeah it is but it's a pretty capable laptop. I've replaced mine with a Framework 11th gen for my daily use but my T480 is currently hosting 10 VMs for my homelab. It's got the base CPU, i5-8250U, 64GB of RAM and a 4TB SSD and is plenty of horsepower. I really only got the Framework because I was excited about the product and company, not because I was unsatisfied with the T480. I highly recommend it.

What is your self hosted power draw?

~500W continuous, ~625W peak. To reduce this further I'd really need to start consolidating hardware. I do have one system that could be replaced with something more modern and would probably drop 20-30W. And my fileserver is a bit overkill as well so there could be improvements there.
