I believe the devs have said they're working on making that work more automatically. Like having it happen as soon as a user clicks a link to it for the first time on your server. And also making links to communities outside your home instance automatically be changed so that it keeps you on your instance where you're logged in.

For example right now if someone on BeeHaw.org clicks https://lemmy.ml/c/memes, it'll take them to lemmy.ml where they're not logged in. They should add /c/ tags like /r/ on reddit, and when someone on BeeHaw clicks something like /c/[email protected], it should take them to beehaw.org/c/[email protected] so they can stay signed in and comment/vote/post. You can do this manually right now by creating a link like so:

[/c/[email protected]](/c/[email protected])

I don't think an unmodified Reddit app would be able to effectively browse the fediverse no matter how good a translation API is, but it could mean a lot LESS work for an app designer making a lemmy app.

If I recall correctly, as long as you can tell it's not real it's legal. But it's still gross. It'll be the first server that my instance is defederating.

They never had to do the AMA in the first place. It's baffling really, there were absolutely ZERO good outcomes for Reddit here.

I'll have to test- maybe other users on my instance can see my downvotes, but they won't federate because BeeHaw rejects them. And therefore no other instance can see them.

Edit: Okay so I've confirmed it.

When downvoting content on an instance that doesn't allow downvotes, you can see only the downvotes that come from other users on your instance. I can see two downvotes now, which happened just after I used a second account to downvote.
