Hey everyone, I attended the Queens Rugby Club training session tonight. Originally intended to watch and do a couple of drills, ended up doing 50%-60%, tapped out of the tackles and scrums to be safe. I want to keep going, but I’m in my 40’s and not worked out much, definitely feeling it in my body tonight. I played in PE in secondary school, but I’m definitely lacking in knowledge!
I’ll most likely be a forward based on my size (220lbs 5’9) but I don’t know my specific position yet.
Any advice on working out routines to help me get stronger and suggestions on what to focus on when I’m not at practice?
I’m also a sweater, what material do you recommend for playing? Definitely dropped the ball a bunch because of how hot and humid it was.

Got the email earlier in the week to get my reserved Steam Controller, placed the order and watched the tracking. Of course it got delivered just as I left my apartment to visit family. I tried repeatedly to set the UPS shipping for pickup, but the option wasn’t available. Asked a friend to swing by, they couldn’t make it on Friday but went yesterday…
Of course there is no package, someone clearly nabbed it and now I’m $100 down. Can’t refuse the charge because it’s tied to my Steam account and UPS will tell me to check with my neighbors and open a case with them!
Feels like Valve created this scarcity with the stupid ordering process, if it’s anything like my Steam Deck, the packaging wasn’t discrete and they wouldn’t allow me to adjust the shipping.
Feels like I have no options and just need to accept that I’ve lost the money.
I’m job searching right now and can’t really justify the Steam Controller purchase this week. Before getting laid off and RAM-pocalypse, the plan was to buy a Steam Machine and controller when it was going to release early 2026, but clearly that plan has changed a bit.
The FOMO is hitting after the previews this week! Do we think we need to worry about Steam Controller availability later in the year?
I use a DualSense Edge for my PS5, and either an old PS controller when docked or my 8BitDo SN30 when I travel for the Steam Deck. If I had the Steam Machine I’d buy it instantly, but who knows when that will happen and how much it’ll cost.

During my multiple attempts I have wiped all devices and started fresh a few times and I always end up in the same situation…
VLAN appears to be working on the LR switch (CSS610)
VLANs tab
Port 1 is my trunk and a member of all 4 of my VLANs
10 = LAN (Used for network devices and maintenance)
20 = IoT
30 = Guest (not configured on the switch, only for WIFI)
40 = Main (Primary VLAN for my network)
50 = Servers
Ports 2-5 are members of VLAN 40
Port 6 is a member of VLAN 10
VLAN tab
Port 1 = Strict, Only tagged, Default ID 1
Port 2 -5 = Strict, Only untagged, Default ID 40
Port 6 = Strict, Only untagged, Default ID 10
This seems to work great, devices will get 10.1.40.x IP addresses and I can connect to port 6 and get 10.1.10.x IP address. Confirmed that my firewall rules also seems to work (although I’ll probably want to run this past OpenWrt forum as well).
But when I go to look at the O switch (CRS310), I’ll mirror this configuration, I’ll get DHCP and DNS, but I can’t reach the WAN or ping any other devices apart from the network equipment. Most recently I tried just VLAN 10 because I figured it would be using the LAN firewall rules and work correctly, but I get the same issue… correct IP address but no traffic.
Note: These screenshots are from last attempt to get something to work, when I mirror the CSS610 setup, I get the same results.
I had to follow these steps to get the SwOS boot to work on the CRS310
Curious if either…
Have I configured the CRS310 incorrectly and something needs to be different vs the CSS610 which seems to work?
Is there is a known VLAN related bug with the CRS310 & SwOS?
Any advice and guidance would be appreciated, feel like I am going in circles at this point.
Happy to share any outputs or screenshots from my OpenWrt router if it’ll help, but the issues do seem to be related directly to this CRS310 switch.

I just got laid off a few weeks ago, applying for jobs and doing a little Linux/networking personal development in my spare time. My wife is leaving today for a week for work, so I’m trying to pick a game out of my backlog while I’ve got some alone time!

Right now I have a new Arch desktop setup to replace an old Mac Mini running Proxmox. Instead of VMs with Docker containers and LXC containers, I want to migrate those services to Podman on the Arch server.
I do most of my daily driving on a Mac Studio primarily for design/3D work, and I’d like to setup a remote development environment so I can use the Mac or an iPad etc to work on coding projects and manage my system (editing config files or .yaml files) on the Arch server. Previously I had a VM in Proxmox running Debian and VS Code using remote tunnels. I’d then auth with GitHub and remote tunnel into that VM. I want to move away from Microsoft products (VsCode and GitHub) and look at alternatives.
Right now I’m considering a new terminal on my Mac (currently iTerm) and server (Alacritty), sticking with zsh or moving to fish and trying LazyVim/NeoVim for file editing. I’d like to keep consistency across my devices and primarily work from a remote machine via SSH and WireGuard VPN when away from the local network.
What’s everyone’s favorite shell, terminal emulator and IDE?
Does it make sense to run things bare metal on the Arch server or should I utilize containers for everything and remotely connect to them per project?
Is it pretty seamless using NeoVim remotely and does any solutions exist for LiveServer or does it make sense to just use something like Nginx in a container?
Still learning a lot, so any words of wisdom is appreciated!
I’ve been rocking Proxmox for a little over a year on an old Mac Mini with a failing NIC (I probably damaged it when I installed the SSD). So I decided it was time to get some new used cheap hardware and I have just received a HP Elitedesk 800 G3 SFF, going to throw 32GB of RAM, a 1TB M2 NVMe boot drive and a 4TB SATA drive for media in it (this will replace my external 4TB drive).
Right now in Proxmox I’m running a Docker VM with Debian (Transmission-VPN container, ByteStash, FreshRSS, KaraKeep), another Debian VM for Visual Studio Code so I can remote into VS Code on my Mac and iPad and couple of LXC containers (Plex, Open WebUI and Pi Hole).
Honestly Proxmox feels like overkill for what I’m doing, half of what I’m doing is either individual LXC containers or I find myself SSH’ing into the Docker VM. The Proxmox helper scripts are great, but I feel like I’m not learning much and I don’t know how much I can trust random GitHub URLs.
I’d like to start learning and becoming more self-sufficient with Linux. I was pretty excited by the idea of learning NixOS, get comfortable learning the code and then creating distinct configurations for different systems, including my Mac devices with Darwin… then I was reminded of all the recent bullshit happening in the community… I don’t want to get deep into the discussion in this thread, but I don’t really want to use/support a distro that Palmer Luckey and Anduril are trying to influence and control.
So I’m trying to decide if I should stick with Proxmox, try something like Arch or keep an eye on what’s going down with Nix and have a good backup strategy if the situation worsens.
I’d probably switch from Docker to Podman, use Wayland with Niri and learn NeoVIM and use SSH instead of VS Code remote tunnels.

I’ll try my best to explain the situation and I’m hoping someone here has some advice or another recommendation on where to post to get answers. I’ve been smashing my head against my desk for weeks trying to understand VLANs across these 2 systems and I’m burnt out!
I’ve got a GL.iNet Flint 2 that I’ve flashed with OpenWRT and I’ve bought 2 MikroTik switches (CSS610-8G-2S+IN & CRS310-8G+2S+IN). The goal is to replace my TP-Link AX3000 router and unmanaged switches (entertainment center and desk). Right now all the old equipment is still in place and I’m trying to setup a little lab for testing at my desk. At first I’d like a Main VLAN (ID 10) for all my regular devices (server, work laptop, personal Mac) and setup an IoT VLAN (ID 20) for my TV, light bulbs, AC etc.
At this point, I might factory reset both devices, because I worry I’ve tweaked with shit so much that I might have some settings misconfigured.
Based on what I’ve seen in YouTube tutorials and documentation (neither OpenWRT or MikroTik docs are particularly user friendly!) it looks like I need to take these steps for setting up VLANs correctly, key part is that OpenWRT now uses DSA
Port 1 and 2 (not WAN) is Tagged on 10 and 20, these ports will be plugged into the switch
Port 5 is Untagged and set to Primary for VLAN ID 10 (this is my admin port in case I get locked out)
This creates br-lan.10 and br-lan.20 VLAN devices
I then go back to Interfaces and edit the LAN interface to device br-lan.10, it has an IP of 192.168.10.1 and has DHCP setup
I created the IoT interface with the br-lan.20, IP 192.168.20.1 and has DHCP turned on
MikroTik SwOS Lite
Setup IP address to 192.168.10.200, this is the CSS610-8G-2S+IN that’ll I will use for my entertainment center with mostly IoT devices
Go to VLAN tab, to setup each port
Port 1 is my trunk to my router, VLAN mode strict, only tagged, ID 1
Port 2 to my test laptop which should be IoT .20 IP range, VLAN mode strict, only untagged, ID 20
Port 8 is my admin/management port, should get a Main .10 IP, VLAN mode strict, only untagged, ID 10
On the VLANs tab, added VLAN IDs for 10 and 20, for 10 it’s a member of port 1 and port 8, and for 20 it’s a member of port 1 and port 2
Here’s the kicker, when I connect the laptop to port 2 of the switch, I’m always getting a self-assigned IP. It appears I’m not getting a DHCP address from the OpenWRT router.
Can anyone provide any advice/guidance or share any guides? Is there a better community to post this message?

My gut is telling me something is incorrect with how I’ve setup the interfaces in OpenWRT and I could do with a clear guide on how to set this up. The problem is that a lot of articles/forums online are older and not DSA specific. Also feel like I’m missing a step in either the DHCP settings in OpenWRT or I’m missing something with Firewall rules.
Need some advice, I need a 2.5Gbps switch for my work area and a 1Gbps switch for my entertainment center. Preferably 8 ports for both and I’d like to stick with the same brand and OS for ease of management.
I’m going to setup a Flint 2 with OpenWRT as the router (not setup yet) and the goal is to have VLAN setup for segmenting IOT devices from my work stuff for security. I’m also going to setup a WireGuard VPN on it as well.
I was eyeing up the MikroTik CRS310-8G+2S+IN and CSS610-8G-2S+IN, but finding both in stock at a reliable seller in the US has been tough. A lot of the resellers listed have bad reviews for reselling used equipment. Open to any advice on sellers in the US for both of these switches or if you think they are a bad idea for my use case.
For context, it’s a small NYC rented apartment with a rather janky CAT6 connection linking the router to the bedroom. But my goal is to set up a 2.5Gbps NAS and try to keep things secure and fast without the need for a rack!
