I hate it when a show gets a different actor for a main character.

The best part about this, and the one I don't see echoed enough, is that Cavill is a nerd. And I mean that in the best way. He ignored the call casting him as Superman because he was in a WoW raid.

He is invested in the Witcher series because it means something to him. He's played the games, read the novels, and he was constantly pushing back on the writers and producers for straying. "Geralt wouldn't do that, or Yennefer wouldn't say that..." Etc. I love that he was passionate enough about it to stick to what he knew was correct.

no future

If I recall correctly, this guy started working there after he retired from a government job. Just bored and wanted something to do, and he credited it with keeping him active enough to live as long as he did.

Honest advertising at least

I came here to say there was probably a context clue or three, namely the price.

I don't know this fella, but he is either so out of touch with how much things cost that he doesn't pay even the slightest attention, or (gasp) he is making up a story for the Internet.

how do I accept that my father is declining?

He may not have disregarded anything. He is aware of your perception of his advice. If he feels like he is declining, but still wants to be there for you, this could very well be desperation to stay involved and still try and help. Unfortunately we all decline as we age, some worse than others. Make him feel appreciated even if you don't get a tangible benefit from his advice any longer. Stay engaged with him, let him feel valuable. Older generations tend to decline even quicker if they no longer feel valuable and instead feel like a burden.

Luigi in court

I've been in court. A lot. I've never seen a seated defendant flanked by armed cops. When heightened security is called for, it's present but not performative; it's functional. The level of theatricality they use is nuts.

Was Luigi Mangione read his Miranda rights during McDonald’s arrest?

Reply in thread

This is correct and most people don't know this. Your Miranda rights protect you against self-incrimination during questioning. They are not rights which must be read to you upon arrest. Some cops (and TV shows) use them this way. However, as 'spontaneous utterances' are recognized by the court, you only need to be advised of your rights prior to incriminating questions being asked.

Maybe they don't attend church. Maybe they aren't even religious. How does this help anyone?

"Maybe they should join a crochet club and find a wholesome woman."

That's how ridiculous you sound.

Trump offers all federal workers a buyout with 7 months' pay in effort to shrink size of government

Reply in thread

You must have missed the details in the article. OPM has listed on their website under 'fork'. The deadline for acceptance is 6 Feb, and the resignation will be effective at the end of September. There is no back and forth with HR; you simply reply to their email with the word 'resign' or you don't and remain employed until the loyalty police come around.

Anyway to clean this sink?

I've had this same issue, and tried lots of things. Bar Keeper's friend, that orange paste crap they sell, all of these are abrasive and scratch the surface of the ceramic, allowing the stains to get worse.

The answer is two-fold. To clean it, fill the sink with very hot water, like near boiling. Then, mix in some powdered oxi clean and let sit for 15ish minutes. You will be amazed when you drain the sink how clean it is.

The second step is to reseal the sink with a commerical product, I found several on Amazon. This will prevent it from happening again, but not as well as when the sink was new. I haven't found any products that reseal it quite as well as the factory sealant.

Hope this helps you.

Military officers shifted to prosecute local D.C. crimes amid Trump takeover

Reply in thread

They sure do, which is why the military prosecutors are being appointed as Special Assistants to the US Attorney. What do you think happens when civilians commit crimes on federal military installations? They can't be charged due to this loophole? No civilian US Attorney is going to waste their time, and locals have no jurisdiction. SAUSAs have long been the DoDs answer to this problem.

Also, just to be clear, I'm not defending this move whatsoever, but claiming they can't doesn't make it so.
