The fun thing is this is just a consequence of how we write numbers. If you used base 12 1/3 would be 0.4. Obviously 0.4 + 0.4 + 0.4 in base 12 is 1.0, so 3 x 0.4 = 1

What's even more fun is that things like 1/5 or 1/10 are recurring decimals in base 12.

Or you could just buy a CD/DVD player or audio file player and have the same ad-free experience but with modern signal quality and for a fraction of the cost. Heck a saved library on a laptop running some kind of audio player like WinAMP and disconnected from the internet would also give you that experience. Could even use Windows XP or a classic Linux for that nostalgia since it wouldn't be internet connected.

Yes and no. You get prions from eating a person that's also infected with prions. Basically if you eat cloned meat of yourself it should be fine as you either already have prions, or you don't already have prions. Prions manifest as either CJD if you got it naturally or Kuru if you got it through canibalism.

If it works, it works.

I suspect the actual PC used is at least fairly powerful though. Like someone else said it's likely using ECC as its mission critial, so chances are it also has other expensive server parts inside. Not all powerful computers actually look like anything fancy at all. This post reminds me of things like the watercooling subreddit and the amount of effort and money they put into things like aesthetics, that don't actually improve performance at all. Even though the original point of watercooling was performance.

xkcd #2948: Electric vs Gas

I can. Electric car batteries last 10+ years, often longer than the body work of the car. Lookup Lithium Iron Phosphate, this has around 5-10x the cycle life of conventional lithium batteries. Combine this with the complex heating and cooling systems, battery and charging management in modern EVs and you have something that lasts as long or longer than even a diesel engine.

Cell phone batteries die quickly because both their construction and the way they are managed favour capacity, cost, and charging speed over longevity. Car battery design is much more focused on longevity by comparison. They are also cycled more often and more completely than most EVs.

Grid issues are a real problem. Cars can be used to make this worse or better depending on how they are deployed. If they are charged during peak energy production from solar they can actually help rather than hurt the grid.

You can also rapid charge a car in like 30 minutes. You don't need 12 hours.

Skill

Some jobs require more skill, and some workers are more skilled. You can't get around that fact. That doesn't mean anyone should be making poverty wages. I think it's fair though that workers are paid more for learning skills. That can be either though paying them more at work, or paying them while they are in education. Note I don't just mean free education, I mean actually giving them money to study. That's the only way to make paying skilled and unskilled workers the same a fair system.

Except that the human body is way more complicated than that. Whenever you try to increase calories out by exercise, your body just finds somewhere else it can economize, because it wants to operate on a fixed budget. This can include pulling calories from your immune system, or making you subconsciously move less throughout the day, or even sleep more. You can only overcome this for a limited time. Kurzgesagt has a good video on this phenomenon. What you actually want to do is reduce calorie intake.

Exercise is good for lots of reasons, but it isn't a good way of losing weight long term.

i have plans beyond your comprehension

We invented one of the world's most popular cheese, Cheddar, which is actually named after an English village. Also our national dish is Chicken Tikka Masala. I dare you to say we don't use spices. We invented several varieties of spiced sausage, spiced cakes and fruit bread, even some kinds of spices rum.

Don't get me wrong, lots of British cuisine is lackluster for sure, and I don't think we can compete with the likes of Thailand or Italy. That doesn't apply to everything we do though, and some of our deserts and cheeses are top tier. Thailand is literally known for diplomacy through food as well, so hardly a fair comparison.

China’s Youth Are Quitting the Rat Race to ‘Let It Rot’

Even marxists don't simplify the classes as much as that diagram suggests. It's missing peasants, artisans and the petty bourgeois. It's also never been as simple as capitalist vs working class. Capitalists regularly fight amongst themselves as do the working class. This whole idea of class struggle being the only struggle is so oversimplified it's kinda silly.

I don't think it's honest to frame it in generational language either btw. Though that is a component of it.

It's not just about the cost though. They're inferior to pretty much any other mid-range or high-end smartphone too. Expensive but good would be fine. Cheap and mediocre would be fine. Expensive and mediocre though? Nah.

My £250 used phone has a faster processor, more RAM, better screen (higher resolution, brighter, bigger and higher frame rate), and a higher capacity battery with faster charging. It's a mid-range Xiaomi from a couple years ago, not a high end or flagship phone.

They should take notes from pinephone. Offers something unusual at a low cost. Since enthusiasts eat that stuff up you get extra help with software and ROMs too. Yes it's low spec, but it's good enough for enthusiasts to play with and is of good value as the price reflects the quality.
