New Samsung phones block sideloading by default

I really hate the term “side-loading.” We shouldn’t need a word for the normal way we’ve been installing apps for the past 40 years. If tomorrow Apple decided they were going to start only letting you visit web pages they approved of, we wouldn’t call some sort of alternating system that let you see the rest of the fucking internet “side-paging”. We’d instead call the whole thing bullshit.

CHAT CONTROL 2.0 THROUGH THE BACK DOOR – Breyer warns: "The EU is playing us for fools – now they’re scanning our texts and banning teens!"

If we have the will to fight this every 5 minutes, we should have the will to make it so we don't keep having to. Winning the same battle over and over isn't victory; it's just giving the enemy more time and opportunity to define the terms of your defeat.

This is getting comically ridiculous and I'm tired, but I suppose that's the point.

Big Brother just got an upgrade. Starting December, Amazon’s Ring cameras will scan and recognize faces. Don’t want to be in their database? Too bad — walk past a Ring and your face can be stored...

I'm losing my mind. Ring cameras everywhere, Flock cameras, ID/face verification, everything Google touches, airports, Tesla car cameras, every modern car actually, Meta glasses, Chat Control every year, the OSA, stores using facial recognition (and other tracking), social media billionaire shenanigans, Samsung installing Israeli spyware and putting ads on the fridges, fuck even the Windows 11+Chrome+iPhone combo I see in public. I could keep going. We could all keep going.

It's too much. Idk anymore. This post broke me a little.

Flock Exposed Its AI-Powered Cameras to the Internet. 404 Media Tracked Themselves.

The idea that you're somehow not entitled to privacy based on the publicity of a space has got to be one of the most successful propaganda campaigns used to strip privacy against the will of people.

Fuck you, I want to take a walk and generally travel freely without being tracked by some fucking "Flock" or Ring camera, or uploaded unblurred to some randos Instagram where Meta and Clearview will train facial recognition and generative AI, or having my entire life story and biometric data collected at some airport.

Take me back to the thousands of years humanity existed without obscenely invasive tech.

Custom ROMs have had just about enough of being Android's second-class citizens

I wish you could slap a custom rom on whatever phone you want and it Just Works™ like you can slap linux on any PC, but instead we get apps that potentially don't work, locked bootloaders, push notifications tied to Google Play Services, and whatever else. You can put Lineage on the EU version of my phone but not the US version because fuck you. I hate how corpo centric phones have become. Like Google shouldn't be allowed to hijack my entire screen for an ad or an app update. The entire modern definition of "sideloading" is BS, apps have access by default to things that they really don't need, and why do I need to use ADB to purge your pre-installed bloatware ffs

Not cool.

Possible snipers seen at OSU. Administration says they're not snipers but should be treated like they are.

Wtf... Cops in riot gear arresting students before 10pm, and fucking SNIPERS intimidating in a peaceful one night protest on a college campus. And a university spokesperson saying "demonstrators exercised their first amendment right for several hours and then were instructed to disperse" like yeah, that's enough first amendment right for you guys, go be quiet now.

Nope. Just nope. You are not free. Burn it all to the ground before it's too late or we're actually fucked.

Proton left Mastodon...

Reply in thread

I disagree, Proton is a privacy company with more followers on Mastodon than on Threads and TikTok. Should they also drop what Linux support they have to focus only on Windows because it has a large base? This feels alienating to their privacy conscious users if anything.

Flock announces changes amid backlash over its license plate reader network

Typical. Corp does evil, people get wise to it and take action, politicians and advocacy groups like the ACLU call for some "adequate safety measures", and corp does damage control. The cameras stay up, the network expands, and a future OTA update rolls back whatever concessions the corp and cops made now after giving the frogs time boil.

Well I don't want "adequate safety measures". I don't care about the "balancing act" between surveillance police state tech and privacy that this article mentioned. There is no compromise. These cameras should not exist and anything less is unacceptable.

Big Tech companies are finally getting the names we thought dystopian megacorps would have

Pretty much. Welcome to the fucking future I guess. There's no flying cars and green cities and happiness or bloody universal healthcare, instead we have corpos trying to turn us into their consumer slaves and governments turning authoritarian. Just do what you're told and buy more. Don't ask questions don't think just browse TikTok, improve your social credit score, and imprint more ads into your psyche until WW3.

We're walking into hell with our eyes wide open fuck me it hurts.
