Gf wants baby
Do you want to be a parent? That’s the only question that matters. No need to make excuses about budget or hobbies. If you don’t want to be a parent that’s your answer. And if you do, you’ll find a way.

Widespread Lithium Found in Drinking Water Across Communities in Western U.S.
Reply in thread
There have been studies linking naturally high lithium levels in groundwater to lower suicide rates. It stabilizes moods for anyone not just those with a bipolar diagnosis. For me it’s most noticeable in regulating anger/rage outbursts. Studies also indicate that it’s neuroprotective - reducing risk or severity of dementia, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s.

Changing for P.E. in U.S. public schools
We had mandatory shower days when we got sweaty or muddy. The PE instructor actually made sure of it in the locker room. He later came out as gay. I don’t think he ever touched anyone but we were all eye molested by a pedo.
Showers at school are fine but privacy is good too.

Can Alzheimer's Spread Through Blood Transfusions? Here's What We Know.
If you’re worried about Alzheimer’s just use tobacco. Nicotine is neuroprotective. I’m sure there are lower risk ways to use tobacco, but don’t ask doctors about them.

People are betting on wildfires on Polymarket. What could go wrong?
The number started by seasonal firefighters who don’t get paid unless they’re fighting flames is already non-zero. We really need to ensure that nobody benefits from wildfires.

I learned how to fix my itchy scalp
For me it was just to stop using shampoo. Keep it short, rinse it a couple times a week. Maybe some Bronner’s soap once a month. Now it seems weird that I would have ever used shampoo and/or conditioner.

My sign said “Animals are slaves. Eat a slave product, become a slave”. The wool vendor was not pleased, knitting with a scowl.

Have you traveled around? The foothills have a lot of very rocky slopes and terrain. Terrace farming is extremely expensive and labor intensive. Vineyards are the only crop grown on slopes at scale, and we already have too many grapes.

California has an affordability crisis. The fix may be politically uncomfortable.
Can’t build your way out of this problem. All rental and vacation properties need to be taxed equal to the market rent or 1/30th the property value annually. Suddenly there will be many properties for sale, and prices can drop.

What do you miss that's ultimately inconsequential but still deeply personal?
Trader Joe’s Belgian Chocolate Pudding. It made any other chocolate pudding taste like milk. Petit Pot comes close but it’s not in a tub and it’s not quite as rich. I used to eat it with fresh strawberries.

When cattle are grazing unbuildable, unfarmable land, it is a fully renewable and sustainable system. Presumably the trees are the casualty but you could just as easily argue that timber products are not sustainable.

Baby chicks cost $6 at a supply store, but I can get a rotisserie for $5? What is the real cost of having chickens?
Buy fertilized eggs and incubate them. Let them scratch through your compost and eat the grubs. Don’t worry about the economics unless you’re starting a factory farm.
