electric pickups, am I chasing a unicorn?

Question for this community: I currently have a 1998 toyota tacoma and, frankly, love the compact pickup form factor. I've been wanting to move to an electric truck for years, but am not seeing many options... am I being an idiot, hoping for a unicorn?

  • Slate looks attractive, but I'm hesitant about a first gen model from a brand new company. Maybe wait a year after release?
  • Telo also looks good, but same issue.
  • Ford Lightning is bigger than I'd prefer.
  • There are some smaller builds, like the Pickman, but not being able to get on the highway
  • I've also thought of paying for an electric conversion of my current truck, but that's looking like $40k just to convert an already older vehicle that's not in great shape.

My main needs are to have a full bed, 2 seats, top speed of ~55mph, and hopefully be less than $50k. I don't care for any other modern amenities, crank windows and dumb systems are perfect, and don't need much range. Am I hoping for too little for too little?

Atticus - Character sketch from a recent Barbians of Lemuria campaign

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/45919688

I decided to dust of my ancient Wacom Intuos 3 tablet and give Krita a try for the first time. I really like it over Gimp for illustration. Fast and easy, and played well with my tablet.

If I can keep up the drawing motivation I'll try to combine this guy with the other characters from that game, get a nice group shot.

Where to install fail2ban?

I've been doing some selfhosting and want to setup fail2ban for my exposed apps, but am unsure if that should be setup on my router (OpenWRT), on each server that may be exposed, or just in the Caddy container?

My setup right now is: TP-Link router with OpenWRT Lenovo M910q with Proxmox, which hosts the following:

  • Caddy in a container for reverse proxies to hosted apps
  • Home Assistant OS in VM#1
  • Other apps in docker containers on VM#2

New haul! Dai Dark Vol 1, Witches, Testament, A Guest In The House, The Interview, A Garden of Spheres Book 1

My amazing wife got me a gift certificate to Secret Headquarters and I was able to scoop up these 6 books. The only books I know anything about are Dai Dark (loved this author's artwork in Dorohedoro) and A Guest In The House (can't go wrong with E.M. Carroll), the rest are new finds.

  • Dai Dark, Q Hayashida
  • Witches: The Complete Collection, Daisuke Igarashi
  • Testament, J Marshall Smith
  • A Guest In The House, E.M Carroll
  • The Interview, Manuele Fior
  • A Garden Of Spheres, Linnea Sterte

Mothership without a tabletop

I'm thinking of running a Mothership campaign in the near future, but my group typically plays over Zoom and not everyone has a device that can support a VTT, so all of our games tend to be "theater of the mind". No complaints, I've played this way for years.

If you've played Mothership, do you think it would be runnable without a TT/VTT, or is that pretty essential?

Recommended video settings

Hi all, I'm new to video production and am trying to create some art-themed videos to upload to Peertube. Does anyone have recommended video output settings for OBS that would keep the filesize small while still having enough resolution to allow line art to appear readable? Or tips on using something like Handbrake to resize/compress videos without losing quality?

I currently have the following settings in OBS, and my last drawing session resulted a 37min MKV file of 892MB:

  • Video encoder = FFmpeg VAAPI H.264
  • Audio encoder = libfdk AAC
  • Recording format = MKV
  • Canvas resolution = 3840x2160
  • Output resolution = 3840x2160 (could probably make this 1920x1080)
  • FPS = 60 (could probably make this 30)

Recommended email providers?

I'm setting up my Nextcloud server and am at the point of needing to connect an email server. I'm not interested in selfhosting an email server (not yet anyway), and I don't particularly like Proton as my current email provider (which was what I migrated to when de-Googling my life).

What email providers do y'all like that aren't run by shady tech bros and are easy to integrate with your other selfhosted services?
