Is there any evidence that Reddit has suffered at all from the exodus to Lemmy?

Maybe some are waiting for Boost or other 3rd party apps but there will likely not be a super big number coming over. Apparently doom scrolling is preferred for a large swath of Gen Zers

Need to focus on improving these communities and being active/creative especially in building niche communities on Lemmy.

I see so many communities created with just a link or two posted weekly by community creator. That kind of activity gives Lemmy a bad look.

We had a good run, thank you everyone

Well some people start communities but are not up to task. There should be a well developed rules/about community page. I have seen just create a community post links and do very little to build engagement.

People are gonna look and leave if a community has like 10 members a new thread with a few replies every two to three days and links.

When I get a little time I will be creating a community. Either way level of engagement will take time to build but lackadasial community creaters add to the build time.

Is having an Android really a deal-breaker for some people?

Most of the people that I know who have Iphones do for family chat or teens and college age because everyone in their circle does.

But IPhone owners have no call to be looking down on android users.

Some of the greatest apps, PowerAmp and Photo Studio Pro do not have iPhone versions. Also IPhone runs behind Samsung in innovation. I mean IPhone finally added widgets but the functionality on IPhone pales in comparison to Android.

Also can't change defaults in IPhone for launcher, music, dialer, and pretty much everything except, browser, and email.

I could never own an IPhone because they think they know best for users. With Android I have autonomy over my device.

Some areas of this country do not get reliable cell signal that is where an FM tuner can still receive emergency alerts but no not IPhone because they disallow their customer base from having and essentially force their power users to utilize their cloud services because once again they fail to offer expandable storage as an option. Shaping their own market but it essentially is anti consumer.

Despite these things Apple is relatively successful with these business decisions (especially in the US) but Samsung Ultra has eclipsed the IPhone Pro with the 23 version and IOS is still playing catch up with Android.

Does it feel like the fediverse is exclusively used by older tech nerds?

Probably so. But then why are Android and Android Apps struggling for engagement? But more randoms, casuals, just a wider overall demographic will be needed for niche communities to become viable.

The communities I mainly communicated in on Reddit either don't exist, or have paltry engagement here.

This is why I am keeping my Reddit account active to make posts in these forums to invite others over here to build engagement.

What's your favourite open source app and why?

KISS launcher

Especially when pairing it with the Panels App

KISS has a small footprint is very fast and really makes my smartphone experience super efficient. I toggle minimalistic on, change search engine to Brave/DuckDuckGo, set my six most used apps as favorites which then show as icons at home screen bottom, assign tags to shortcuts such as favorite websites or tools such as compass, barometer, speed meter, distance calculator, etc.

You can have a tag category show up as a window from the bottom right settings menu.

Kiss also has a very effective search component. Literally the only scrolling needed will be doom scrolling on ones favorite social media app.

Widget functionality could be better but can be supplemented by said Panels app.

I have used hundreds of Android Apps since my first smartphone around 10 years ago and KISS is my most favorite of all (open source or regular) due to how its impacted how I use my phone.
