Starbucks is reeling as customers go elsewhere, sales decline

Starbucks, do you remember when the German government lowered the VAT in July 2020 for restaurants when COVID hit us? The intention was to make food cheaper for the consumer to prevent restaurants from going bankrupt.

That’s the month you increased your prizes to sell your stuff for the same prize including VAT as before and making more profit, giving your customers a huge middle finger.

Starbucks CEO defends a cup of coffee costing $9

Fuck Starbucks. It’s not the first time I mention this, and I’ll keep mentioning it: When Corona hit Germany, the government reduced the VAT to prevent restaurants from going bankrupt in 2020. Starbucks gave every customer the finger and did not lower the prices, keeping the difference for themselves. I was never a regular customer but this made me blacklist them for life.

‘Makes No Sense’: WSJ Editorial Board Savages Trump Tariffs on Allies as ‘Dumbest Trade War in History’

What I still can’t comprehend as a non American: It’s not Canada that’s going to pay the tariffs. It’s mostly US companies and at the end the US consumers will pay for it. That’s literally grabbing money from the pockets of US citizens. In what way does this sound like a good idea to a Trump voter? What happens if the affected countries start trading with each other and ignore the US? Trade wars have the the potential to develop into a full scale war if one of the participants is starved of the precious oil…

Linux reaches 5.25% in Germany

Well what a intelligent decision it was to bombard people with ads in OSs that were paid for.

I switched the day Microsoft clickbaited me into clicking on an ad while testing the new outlook with the paid 365 subscription I had. At this point I was having a constant stream small annoyances at least every week since Windows 7.

My host is running Linux mint now and 365 was replaced by only office (since this seemed to be the most similar and compatible office package I found). Trouble free since January. Battery lasting twice as much. Zero work lost because of unexpected update reboots 👍🏼

I’m so happy, I even bought a Steam deck to support Valve/Proton

Anyone here use assembly?

IMHO assembly isn’t hard. When you gain enough experience you start to see „visual patterns“ in your code. For example jumping over some lines often equals to a if/else statement or jumping back is often a loop etc. Then you are able to skim code without the necessity to read each line.

The most difficult part is to keep track of the big picture because it is so verbose. Otherwise it’s a handful or two of instructions you use 90+% of the time.

I needed it often in the past in the PLC world but it is dying out slowly. Nonetheless, when I encounter 30+ year old software I’m happy to be able to get along. And your experience transitions to other architectures like changing from one higher language to another.

Nonetheless, if I’m able to choose, I’ll take Go. Please and thank you 😊
