‘There is no money’: Cuba fears total collapse amid grid failure and financial crisis
Reply in thread
Errrm Russia is literally in the process of attacking a neighbouring country right now. They are tying their very best to make this country collapse with things far worse than sanctions, and no one has started WW3 yet.

"I should like to put it on record that I have never been able to dislike Hitler. Ever since he came to power—till then, like nearly everyone, I had been deceived into thinking that he did not matter—I have reflected that I would certainly kill him if I could get within reach of him, but that I could feel no personal animosity."
I think the first sentence was taken a bit out of context. In the second he says he would kill him if got the chance to. I think he's just trying to say that Hitler was charismatic.

Reminder that there's no "it's too late, its over" for climate change
A bit sad how pessimistic everyone is. Renewables are currently becoming the most economic way to produce electricity and even states that do not care about the environment are investing in it. EVs are making progress as well. And while it is true that a lot of damage has already been done and we will face the consequences, I also feel that decarbonization is inevitable even from a economic perspective at this point. The speed at which this happens is variable though and determines how many people will die, this is why it is important to not be pessimistic and hopeless but to try steering things in the right direction.

Yes battery + solar seem to have gotten good enough in recent years. So much so that it seems they are more cost effective than nuclear for newly build systems. Nuclear even seems to be the most expensive one. Link

I always felt like the fact that you get attacked by local fauna when you cause pollution was a comment on that. As in the planet recognises that you are not doing a good thing.

My Car Is Becoming a Brick: EVs are poised to age like smartphones.
Very much clickbait going from "My car is becoming a brick" in the title to "Well the technology lasts longer than gas cars but the smartphone features might stop working at some point" in the article. Also Tesla is not all EVs, they are especially bad in how they use software in cars.

I don't know how widespread this is, but in the german army it is illegal to follow an order if you think it violates human rights. They specifically wanted to make a law against the "I was just following orders" excuse, you're still guilty.

Germany Looks to Stop the Far Right From Assuming Power

These are a lot of statements without sources. Also most people would disagree with the statement that a government that includes social democrats and greens is implementing a "far right agenda".
