Tech experts are starting to doubt that ChatGPT and A.I. ‘hallucinations’ will ever go away: ‘This isn’t fixable’

In my limited experience the issue is often that the "chatbot" doesn't even check what it says now against what it said a few paragraphs above. It contradicts itself in very obvious ways. Shouldn't a different algorithm that adds a some sort of separate logic check be able to help tremendously? Or a check to ensure recipes are edible (for this specific application)? A bit like those physics informed NN.

'It hasn't delivered': The spectacular failure of self-checkout technology

This article really sounds like it describes an alternate reality to me. Interesting to see how many people in the comments seem to hate self checkouts but here in the UK they seem to work fine. Shops seem to have found the right balance. In the same shop you'll have queues advancing rapidly at self checkouts and people run tills with shorter queues for customers who prefer the human interaction.

So you are criticising the over simplification presented here and I agree with you.

I would however point out that although I also don't like the binary aspect of their blurb, I find that I would quite agree with their final sentence. I don't think the test shows whether we are a good or a bad person, but it does say something about a person's ability to fit in a society.

Systemic rulecism explained well

What view are they trying to counter here? I understand all the words of the post and I agree with the logic but I don't see in what situation this argument is useful. Perhaps I'm lucky not to have been exposed to the people for whom it would be useful...

Edit: I saw some very clear answers to my questions after scrolling down a bit. I think I just didn't understand what the term "systemic" meant here.

Yeah if we're both in the same situation maybe but my income Vs your well-being is a different thing isn't it?

I can accept to be a bit less comfortable to help you live in less horrible conditions.

British food

The meme is funny (it is!) until people take it too literally.

Yes there are things in traditional English cuisine that are atrocious (from difficult times for some of them) but I believe what counts as English food is what you can find in England today.

If you want cheap then you have Indian, Chinese etc in addition to the usual fast food places. Fish and chips is good but you have to let go off your prejudices. The fish is super crispy outside and flaky inside but bland. It's meant to be eaten covered in salt with tartare sauce or your vinegar soaked chips.

True the cheap traditional food can be meh compared to Italy or France. If you want really nice English food you'll have to pay more. Gastro pubs, genuine fancy "British cuisine" restaurants are everywhere but you need to be ready to pay the price.

In addition many other countries also have soso traditional food (I think NL, DK etc according to their own citizens). But the problem obviously is that the UK are more fun to target, because the UK wants to be perceived as a superpower in other aspects as they once were. So yeah let's make fun of their food.

Trump Is Running a Disinformation Campaign, Not a Political Campaign

However you look at it it always boils down to marketing and comms. Everyone looks for the best way to get the votes, testing how far they can go. But the left can't afford to be unethical because that's part of their identity and they would lose their core voters. The right however... Found trump.

It sounds lame but the best way for the democrats to win is to get people to vote. I believe that was the single reason behind Obama's ama on Reddit a few years back.

You could also read it differently nowadays 15 years later with all the emissions scandal. Probably wouldn't want to trust Volkswagen with such statements huh.

DOJ proposes breakup and other big changes to end Google search monopoly

As far as I know Google and Bing return AI results just above the usual web page results.

In addition AI LLM tools like Copilot (the mobile app) and Perplexity which cite their sources with links to websites really make it easier to weed out the BS from LLM answers, if you use them carefully. In my case, these tools replace search engines in 80% of the searches that I do.
