What you said was "[...] and leading the police to arrest pedophiles" which is what I'm talking about now. I previously claimed that they did thousands of internal investigations, that's not in question. An internal investigation is not a criminal investigation. None of those links seem to be evidence they've ever been the instigating factor behind a criminal investigation.

The claim you made is that the church lead the police to arrest pedophiles - which, honestly, that would be nice if it were true. But as far as I'm aware, it's just wishful thinking that the church has ever done that.

ad hominem

Correct! Well done! You get a cookie! However, addressing the applicability and/or bias of a source (as I have done here) is not in itself fallacious, even if it involves addressing their character or actions.

Ex: Donald Trump says pedophilia isn't bad. Pointing out that he's a poor authority on the morality of pedophilia because he himself is a pedophile and rapist is not an ad-homenim either, because it's not a dismissal of his argument, it's a dismissal of the value of his argument based on the present biases. Even though this is an ad hominem, it's not a fallacy because of the magnitude of the bias. It's a very important distinction.

the relocation of priests happened on the diocesan level and not the vatican level

The holy see is internationally recognized as a sovereign entity - I must have missed how that means it's only in charge for the good bits, and isn't in responsible for the bad ones.

I apologize, but I am not watching a youtube vid for this.

and this presides over the moral atrocities of the Sexual Revolution

Yeah, I too think the beatles were overrated...

the church investigating and leading the police to arrest pedophiles in its ranks

You got any proof of that happening? I know of a couple investigations where the church cooperated but I have seen not one example of them ever being the instigating factor behind a criminal proceeding. Let alone any sort of repeated program of this.

Also, you know, all the evidence of them knowing about it but covering it up until after they got caught means even if it's true, it's not exactly an example of them not being utterly complicit in all ways with the whole rampant pedophilia thing...

please try watching the video

No.

and the church definitely isnt a “pedophile ring”

Even the church itself investigated thousands of reported cases of pedophilia, and there have been hundreds of priests arrested in conjunction with it, including quite a few bishops who have been found to have been complicit in both the rapes and the coverups. How on earth does that not meet the criteria to be a pedophile ring?

Hu-man-it-ee vit-ay? My goodness, what a new and novel document I have never encountered before. This surely will change my outlook!

... Yeah, listen, Paulmbo #6 sat by preaching about morality while blithely presiding over the foundation of a pedophilia ring so massive it makes epstien look like a weekend hobbyist. Not only that, by publishing Humanitae Vitae he's directly responsible for causing the rise of catholic anti intellectualism and the decline of the church into the joke of an institution it is today. He's a reaaaaaally bad choice for a source.

throwing rocks at a puppy may be “fun”, but question, is it right?

Well, I mean, textually yes? Exodus 21:28 - you're to kill an animal (often translated as an ox) that kills a person by stoning to death.

But I agree that it's a stupid example - possibly because life is far too complex to be reduced to a set of simple, contextless rules and categories like 'sin'

It really worries me that we've fixated on the "lol trump shits his pants" meme to the point that it's showing up in every conversation about him, even though there's absolutely no evidence beyond one small sound on a video. It's the same kind of alternate reality that the MAGAs live in, where what they really want to be true about their opponent has become, to them, the actual truth. The crosspost is one of the most popular posts of the day, and it's just a lie. Making fun of trump is fine, but my theory is that since everything he's actually done is either so fucking horrible (blowing up all those schools) or so fucking dumb (the reflecting pool) that we've had to create something we're comfortable criticizing him for (and "shitting your pants" is an action that only affects him, so you're not being insensitive to a tragedy by joking about it).

Little evidence that Australia's under-16 social media restrictions have curbed use among adolescents

While the researchers acknowledge that legislative changes take time to show results, they argue that current platform age-verification checks are inadequate and that many under-16s are actively bypassing these restrictions.

The researchers found that more than 85% of participants under 16 reported using social media platforms subject to the act at follow-up, mostly via their own accounts (54%–67%). Of these, 66% reported exposure to platform age-verification checks, most commonly self-declared age (24%–39%) and uploading a picture ("selfie") (13%–27%).

seems like the plan everyone said would be ineffective has turned out to be ineffective... shocked pikachu

Supportive rule

Oh this one is way too relatable. Like when they send screenshots with usernames redacted and you assume they're blue, but oh boy you guessed wrong and it turns they're the ones refusing to pay their share of the rent until the roomie they're stealing wifi from upgrades the hardware so they get better connectivity in their bedroom and now they're furious at YOU for not understanding their perspective and saying red seems kinda entitled.

... hello from yesterday's group chat.

A-10 naysayers BTFO

This is actually a thing - AV (and several other loitering munition manufacturers) experimented with what they were calling "daycare mode" (no, really. Fuck I hate them), where ground formations could fire a bunch of (ex: switchblades) off, then control would be taken over by CAS for transit my-ship-is-dragging-mines-style out of range of the base station to the target area for terminal control. It worked pretty well, might even be deployed now, but it was a surprisingly hard sell for the A-10 pilots whose job was to fly low & slow through an area picking up digital tethers while a bunch of jarheads aimlessly fired missiles into their flight path.
