How to best stitch on normal fabric
I have a normal white skirt and would like to stitch some patterns from a cross stitch book on it. It's made up of normal fabric, not cross stitch cloth. Are there any tips and tricks on how to cross stitch on clothes?
Found an old Spiderman from 1998 at a yard sale
It even has order instruction to order other comics by post. Also an advertisement for 50 free hours of AOL.
I found it pretty interesting, I was a teenager in the 90s and it was a bit nostalgic to see instructions on how to order comics by post.
Peacock
I bought a book with old German stitch patterns. The patterns were found in a house that used to belong to a textile merchant. This is my first try using metallic yarn.
Old CDV portraits from Dresden and Chemnitz
I found these photos at a fleamarket. They don't have a date, but CDV-photos were used between around 1860 and 1915 in Germany.
Also fun fact: The two kids could very well have been boys. It was customary at that time to dress up boys in dresses for photos. My family has a photo of my great grandfather as a young boy in a white dress.
Need Advice on how to use an old camera
Hello everyone, I bought an old Kodak Retinette 1A in a fleamarket. It seems to be in working condition, although I'll only know for sure after I developed the first photos. I found a manual for a later version (or a different one, the manual is in English and the camera is from Germany) but the lense and the labeling on the lenses are very different from mine.
I was hoping maybe someone with more knowledge of photography could help me make an educated guess. I assume the part labelled with an "m" is distance in meter, but otherwise I have no clue.
Update: Unfortunately the developed Film came out empty, so either I made a terrible mistake or the camera is broken :(
We found out by chance that my husband is colorblind
My husband and I went to an exhibition about the solar system at our local natural history museum. There was also an exhibition for children about the human body with really good explanations how genes work, how our ear works, stuff like that.
We came to the part about the eyes and there was an explanation of colorblindness and the different forms together with the tests. You know - the circles with dots where you have to read the number. Anyway, I forgot why but he started reading out the numbers. And well, he got one of them wrong. Not the test for full-on red-green blindness, but he can't tell certain shades apart.
In hindsight I had noticed that he sometimes confuses names for colors apart from the basic ones or that he doesn't like it when I identify an object by its color (e.g. "give me the pink one"). But I'd always chalked it up to German not being his mother language.

When right becomes wrong, resistance becomes a duty. - Author Unknown
Original: Wo Recht zu Unrecht wird, wird Widerstand zur Pflicht.
"Recht" means "right (to sth)" in the legal sense or "the law" and "Unrecht" is "wrong" as in "being wronged" or a morally wrong thing.
Often attributed to Berthold Brecht but probably not originally written by him.
Ancient Egyptian myths in Stargate
I have been reading some books about ancient Egypt for a project of mine and I came across some stuff that I found interesting. I think we all know that Stargate borrowed the names of gods for the Goa'ulds. What I didn't know was that they also borrowed some more mythology. I'll be honest, I thought that apart from very basic facts about the "gods" they mostly made this stuff up. So I thought maybe some of you would also find this interesting.
In the movie and also later in the series the topic of the rebellion against Ra comes up. This is an actual ancient Egyptian myth: A long time ago the gods used to live with the humans on earth and the sun god Ra lived among them as their king. However as Ra aged, his power became weaker. This led to the humans mocking him and defying his orders. They refused to pray to him. In anger Ra sent his daughter Hathor (goddess of love) who became Sekhmet (goddess of destruction). Sekhmet began slaughtering all humans. Ra then regretted what he had done, because he had realised that if all humans were killed there would be no one left to pray to him. He prepared beer colored red to look like blood. Sekhmet drank it all and fell asleep, thus humanity was saved. Ra forgave the humans for their betrayal but still decided to ascend to the heavens and rule from there.
I also found it interesting that doorways have an important role in Egyptian mythology. False doors were painted on the walls of tombs and were thought to be a connection to the world of the dead. Obviously they weren't round, but the idea of building doors to other worlds (the world of the dead, mostly) is prominent in ancient Egyptian culture.
In one episode the eye of Ra is introduced as a powerful weapon. In mythology Ra created humans from his tears. His eye was the embodiment of his power. In some version of the rebellion myth Sekhmet is said to act as "the eye of Ra" when she almost destroyed humanity.
And lastly this is not a myth, but Abydos is the name of a city in Egypt, where some of the oldest temples and objects connected to ancient Egyptian religions were found.
These are just some small fun facts I stumbled upon. Also, there are so many more fun Gods and myths in ancient Egyptian mythology. I understand that the series could not possibly integrate them all, but it would be a lot of fun to have them pop up e.g. in spin-offs. Like Anat, the Goddess of war and sister of Baal, who defended the Pharaoh in battle. She could be a Goa'uld who is a scientist and developed a lot of the weapon technology. Maybe she invented the Zats.
Travelling on a flying carpet must be terrifying
You are some 2-3 km in the air. There's nothing to hold on to. You are sitting on a piece of cloth that is barely large enough to accommodate you. No railings, no seatbelts, nothing to hold on to or stop you from falling to your death if the carpet gets into turbulences or a strong gust of wind makes you lose your balance. And let's not forget that most depictions of magic carpet flights have the carpet move very erratically because they have a mind of their own.
What would you do if a mummy came back to life in front of you?
You are the last visitor at a small Museum of Egyptology. You walk around the room. Since it is so small, the only guard is the Person selling Tickets at the entrance. Suddenly you hear glass shatter. You turn around and one oft the mummies climb out of the sarcophagus. He seems disoriented and asks you, what place this is and why he isn't in his tomb.
What do you do?

Zimmer in Steuererklärung angeben trotz fehlender Meldung
