I'm from the EU and sadly this has become more and more the norm here. I remember a time when we had very little SUVs here but now they seem to be everywhere. And it's a really busy capital city, so the streets are narrow. I can't understand why people would buy big cars here...

I'm Portuguese and as much as I'd love to run on 96% green energy I can't believe it... Last time I checked (it was quite a while ago I'll give them that) we imported a lot of nuclear energy from France. So unless France is 100% green and still has a green energy surplus (which it isn't/doesn't) we're just transfering our carbon footprint...

We do have a lot of wind turbines so maybe we don't import as much anymore but still...

I did just that about 7 or so years ago. Only gave my number to family members and really close people (maybe 5 at most). Also deleted all my social media.

Unfortunately, I was just getting started on "the real world" and would get any job thrown my way. One of them required me to reply to my manager on WhatsApp so I ended having to create one and give them my number. I've since left that job and I'm now no longer a junior in my field, but still feels feels bad on my record :(

I use Firefox and also got that pop-up. Eventually I just grew tired of clicking the "X" button so I went on uBlock origin and added that stupid banner and the banner background to the blacklist.

It's like nothing ever happened. And if shit continues to get worse, either someone comes up with a fix somehow, or I'll just find a way to run ReVanced YouTube apk on my pc or something. I don't care if I have to emulate it somehow.

Also, on mobile GrayJay is a good alternative to ReVanced. Made by LouisRossmann's team apparently.

Yeah there was this news story a long time ago of 2 girls that were stuck on an elevator in Lisbon (Portugal). Apparently they looked up some number on their phones for Lisbon but since they were from the US it suggested some random city named Lisbon there. They spent a lot of time trying to explain where the elevator was located until they realised it wasn't the same Lisbon.

(I think it's a true story. Might just be an urban legend from Lisbon I guess 🤷‍♂️)

Honestly, blahaj also seems to have a lot of deranged people. A lot of great people too, but with my instance defederating from Hexbear and lemmygrad, when I see those kinda of comments it's usually blahaj.

They aren't as bad though of course. It's bearable.

I think the mods on this community should implement a rule or maybe a suggestion that people expand on the topic. I'm saying this because it does seem like a topic that would interest me, but without context and having no previous knowledge of it, I'll just move on to the next post.

I see some Linux but I'm subscribed to a lot of techy communities. Self host, programming etc. So it's kinda normal.

Could be the default view on each instance... On my first account I subbed to a lot of different communities on different instances so I saw all the crap. Eventually due to all the politics bullshit I just migrated to my current instance which has hexbear and lemmygrad blocked so it's been a lot better.

But even so, I always see a bunch of politics crap on the memes community.

I think I overall prefer digital, but on e-ink devices mostly.

I like that they don't take up space, I can download them quickly and not have to go to the bookstore or order it online and wait for it to be delivered. Also I can sync it on multiple devices and read on my kindle when I really want to have a good reading experience but if I forget it or am waiting for the bus or something, just pull up the kindle app on my phone and everything is synced.

On the other hand, growing up with a lot of books I kinda miss the feel and smell of physical books. Also I feel like they are a bit more... "permanent".

Started during covid to avoid going outside, plus I had one of the big players in food delivery as a client, so I got a monthly 20€ voucher. That got me hooked.

I got used to it, became lazier, completely got cooking out of my routine and I the process gained 30Kg that I'm now slowly trying to get off for the past 6months or so.

In a nutshell, I got addicted to junk food and was too lazy to go get it. Also had enough money to allow me to do it, even if I shouldn't for health and economic reasons... Could be saving for something like the down-payment on a house but nope. Spending it on junkfood+delivery (luckily tipping isn't a thing here).

Trying to break that habit now.

As a bonus: I ordered a lot from BurgerKing. Until the end of 2022 they had free delivery above 12€. I'd easily get to the 12€.

Around January 2023 they changed the website to offer delivery ABOVE 15€ and that was crap because my orders usually didn't go that high. Turns out they fucked it up when coding it and if you managed to get exactly 15€ it would completely bypass this check and give you free delivery.

Someone needs to go back to basic math >= :)

Unfortunately they fixed it in early November. Good thing though as it might discourage me from ordering even further.

The timing on this is funny. I was just talking about this with me SO. I am on vacation around BENELUX and this is the first time I've ever seen the carry on bags were paid. You can take a small bag though but I remember that, at least before covid, you could bring a carry on + a small bag under the seat in front of you for free.

I was asked 50€ for the carry on this time... So for a couple that's 200€ just in carry on fees lol. I packed all my clothing on my backpack and I think I'll eventually need to pay a laundromat or something to wash my clothes but it won't be 50€.

Fuck these hidden fees.
