does sh.itjust.works allow criticism of CCP?
Lemmy.ml and Lemmygrad.ml are the two only instances where I encountered such criticism, so I assume that sh.itjust.works would allow it

I wouldn't even say "big parts of the platform". Beehaw, Lemmy.world, sh.itjust.works have large enough userbases now to counterbalance Lemmy.ml

duplicate communities on lemmy instances is not a good trend
Nothing, and that prevents one instance to claim a specific community. Time will filter out the best of those similar communities.

There's definitely a forum vibe here. You can already see that the different instancess (lemmy.ml, beehaw.org, lemmy.world, lemmy.one) have their own specificities. Very refreshing.

Probably following the Apollo announce. Good luck with that, it's probably too late.

Definitely. Moreover, the domain name is just awesome

I like that this is a general instance.
I share the same feeling. I was a bit surprised by a lot of new joiners asking for the opening of very niches communities. Those needs will probably be filled later by specific instances, but it's nice indeed to have a place to just discuss general things.

How can lemmy handle 5k+ signups per hour on Monday?

Join-lemmy should probably change from number of users to load of the server. People would prefer to go for healthy servers
