"Write a Check for $11,000. She Was 26, She Had Limited Value." [Seattle Police] Officer Jokes with Police Union Leader About Killing of Pedestrian by Fellow Cop

Reply in thread

Seattle PD is and has always been terrible. For a city with as little violent crime as we are, you would think that we would have a semi-competant police force. We aren't Baltimore or Chicago or Memphis. We don't need a violent, antagonistic, adversarial police force. Yet decade after decade, Seattle PD shows themselves to be the worst of the worst of violent white nationalists.

SPD's training standards are embarrassingly low. SPD's staffing numbers are embarrassing low. Rookie cops make over $100k and the right-wing pundits say it's not enough, while first-year teachers make $55k and the right-wing pundits say it's too much. They blame the BLM riots and say that the city betrayed them, but the average person here had absolutely zero faith in them well before the riots. Most SPD officers don't actually live in Seattle.

Sorry if the second paragraph got a bit into unhinged-rant territory, but shit like this is infuriating. SPD is so clearly shit and needs to be purged.

TIL "This machine kills fascists" is a message that American musician Woody Guthrie placed on his guitar in the mid-1940s, starting in 1943.

Interesting story. Dropkick Murphys (Boston-Irish punk band) got their first national hit by doing a punk version of "Shipping Out to Boston," which was a Woody Guthrie taperoom-floor forgotten song. They also just lost one of their lead singer/songwriters last year.

They were trying to figure out what direction to go in, when Woody Guthrie's granddaughter called them up to say she had found a bunch of other scraps and notes, wondering if they had any interest in putting together an album.

They said "fuck it, sure" and made an album called "This Machine Still Kills Fascists." It's not quite my cup of tea, but it resonated with a lot of people. If you're interested in Guthrie's music it's definitely worth a listen. Modernized medium-talent version of his b-sides, basically.

Trump plans to sue DOJ for $100M over Mar-a-Lago raid: report

Reply in thread

Hillary Clinton had classified emails in a private, password-protected server. Conservatives have spent over a decade frothing at the mouth, calling for her head. The DOJ announced that they would investigate her two weeks before the 2016 election, possibly dooming her campaign.

Donald Trump had classified documents in a box in the shitter at his private residence while a Russian envoy was there, and conservatives think that's all cool.
