1. Carsharing is not the same thing as ride sharing. Carsharing (basically short term car rental paid by the hour/km) is an option anywhere. My girlfriend and I have used this widely in our nature adventures in Europe.

2. I am talking about possibilities of how we could reform our system and thinking, not the real life situation. Nonetheless, a taxi (ride sharing) is still a viable option in large parts of the world and the US.

Wat vooral belangrijk is, is dat het rekeningrijden goed schaalt aan de hand van het gewicht van de auto. Het onderhoud van wegen is de allergrootste kostenpost van autorijden by far. De kracht die een auto uitoefent op het wegoppervlakte schaalt met de vierde macht. Maw, een auto die twee keer zo zwaar is oefent zestien keer zoveel kracht uit op het wegoppervlakte en is dus ook verantwoordelijk voor zestien keer zo veel kosten van het onderhoud van de weg.
