Oshi no Ko - Episode 11 discussion - FINAL

Reply in thread

Yeah it doesn't even feel like a finale. To be fair it is just ending 1/3 into the manga so that was never really meant as a stopping point. It's probably pretty difficult to turn that into an ending while staying true to the source.

Watching it weekly this kinda sucks but I have a feeling in hindsight once the other seasons are out it will be extremely bingable, just like the manga is.

[Rant] The people - or rather the attitude - of r/piracy

Reply in thread

I have noticed this long before this migration. There were a lot of users who would say things like, "stop trying to do mental gymnastics, just admit you want free stuff." Because they think that way they assume everyone else thinks that way. They couldn't possibly fathom that other people genuinely believe in the free exchange of media and information.

VPN Recommendations?

Reply in thread

I use mine exclusively for torrents, so I don't really care what is happening on the other end as long as they are masking my IP address. If you were using it for general browsing I could see that mattering more. But it's really hard to beat the speeds + port forwarding for $2.22/mo ($80 for 3 years). That's less than half the price of any comparable alternatives.

Favorite US based VPS?

Yep came here to say Frantech. Been with them for years as well, absolutely love them. Amazing pricing, amazing support. The ISO system is really cool. They even allow changing reverse DNS and will open email ports if you ask. I've only ever had one problem and it turns out it was my own fault, but Francisco still helped me troubleshoot it. Cannot recommend them enough.

What was the subreddit that represented to you the best example of downspiral of quality? To me it was /r/dataisbeautiful

I think another big problem is that once a sub is popular enough it will start showing up on r/all or r/popular. There were a ton of posts on r/anime_irl that were just anime memes but people upvote because "haha funny meme" and not because it actually fits the sub. They aren't paying attention to which sub it actually came from because it just pops up in the feed and they treat it like any other social media site where upvote = I like it.

A normal connection goes from You -> Destination but with a commericial VPN it goes You -> VPN -> Destination. If You and your VPN are the same then it makes absolutely no difference, your IP address hasn't changed. The VPN has to be a different location for it to make sense.

What are your anime ranking hot takes?

Reply in thread

I agree. When I saw it was the highest rated of all time and a bunch of people I know recommended it I expected it to be some kind of masterpiece. It was just okay. I genuinely have no idea why people rate it that highly. I didn't start watching anime until 2019 so maybe I am just missing the nostalgia factor.
