75 cops, 6½ hours of gunfire, for an eviction in Pittsburgh

I get that he fired first ( the eviction situation is a whole other bag of nuts) but couldn't 5 police officers with some tear gas have fixed this in 30 minutes with a lot less gunfire?

The guy was losing his home and he was scared. We don't know what his mental state was and we don't know how he came in to possession of so much fire power so I'm not going to assume he bought guns instead of paying his rent- I'm just going to assume that 75 officers and 6.5 hours of gunfire was obviously not the best way out of this situation.

TIL about Earl Silverman, a domestic abuse survivor who founded a shelter for men. It was denied funding from the government and he was ridiculed. The shelter went bankrupt and he died by suicide

Calling it toxic masculinity isn't victim blaming. Men are victims to toxic masculinity every day and it isn't because they have a "toxic personality", it's because the "masculine" image and roles in society they are expected to uphold are toxic.

The opinions of "neo feminists" are not what is typically held true either. Very few people think that way.

I broke my ankle a few years back and the bones had to be surgically reattached, but the OR was full so they had to set and splint it in the meantime. The shot of fentanyl didn't do anything, so they gave a cocktail that knocked me right the fuck out and set my ankle. My husband said I shot straight up like I was in the Exorcist, yelled and swore a bunch and passed out again. I remember nothing, thankfully.

Do you ever despair at the apparent lack of regard for the "social contract" by so many?

My husband and I discuss this regularly. The loss of the social contract.

It is so sad to see so many people respond with "not my responsibility." Why isn't it? If you want to be a part of society then it is your responsibility. Part of being "civilized" is the strongest helping the weakest and most vulnerable. Our truest measure as humans is how we treat those who need the most.

Bringing other people up to a dignified level increases your value, not decreases. It doesn't take away from you to let others have dignity and respect.

If it makes you feel any better, the rent was going to skyrocket regardless of the loan forgiveness. That's just the generations before us people trying to make sure they get to the top so they can pull the ladder up behind them.

We have no loan forgiveness here in Canada and rent is still going up faster than anyone can afford. It doesn't help that all of the politicians are landlords.
