Firm firmware might be able to be modified, but documentation is largely unknown.
Silken firmware is easily modified by the user.

Do you trust FiveThirtyEight without Nate Silver?
I did not trust 538 before. I think a few major US election voter turnouts suffered because too many people thought the 538 results meant that their candidate was a sure thing.

What was your "listened to my gut instinct" story?
One time I was listening to headphones walking home from the train in the rain after work in a major US city. I had an uneasy feeling and spun around ending up walking backwards. I'm face to face with a stranger who is uncomfortably close to me matching pace. I awkwardly said, "Hi." Then, we were both uncomfortable. Nothing happened. I took my headphones off and continued a few streets to my apartment. Maybe something would of happened had I not spun around.

Reddit Blackout: -19% Comments/day and -9% Posts/day during the 48h
I forget where I read this, but something like 15-30% of reddit users third-party apps. 19% dip sounds like some of that group continued using Reddit while a majority either stopped or found Lemmy/Kbin.

What do you think about Apple and its ecosystem? (And a little conversation I had with a colleague)
These are probably more related than you think. I believe we were on track to work together in a global Open Science initiative until Bill Gates stepped up to bankroll most of the biggest initiatives under the agreement that the results were proprietary.
Apple historically was the first company to sue for software copyright infringement. As many other have posted in this thread, they haven't gotten better over time.

What's the most noteworthy/interesting game repack you've come across?

The copy protection for Quarantine was particularly interesting because it was thematic. Given the weight of a pedestrian and the speed of your car, how far will the body fly?

what are .webp files and why has my online experience been plagued by them?
Reply in thread
You cannot rename a file from webp to jpg, but you can change the URL to .jpg and it will likely serve you the jpeg version. You can also convert webp to another format with dwebp or MS Paint.

Why doesn't Lemmy implement an anonymous post feature?

The ability to edit titles seems like an obvious feature that Reddit never added.

538 is just data-backed fortune-telling.

Why is Linux so frustrating for some people?
Reply in thread
There are many ways to run code at startup. cronjobs and systemd are common ways to handle this. I have also had things start automatically with my desktop environment which comes later in the boot process.

What disros works on low end, slow, very outdated pc's?
Reply in thread
This answer is getting down voted, but Debian is the answer because it is user friendly and supports 32bit. If you need to seriously bring new life to these machines upgrade the RAM and buy SSDs. Using a lightweight desktop environment like MATE is a good option.
Don't give users unfamiliar with Linux a window manager or Arch.

Need some help with installing KISS Linux
I'd never heard of KISS Linux. Sounds like Gentoo, but a one developer project.
