I hereby order you to stop feeling guilty!
Life is too short to feel guilt over app preferences. And anyone who purposefully tries to make you feel guilty should go out and touch grass (as the youth say).

Reddit refugees, has your favorite sub migrated already?
They’re heeeeeeeere…
I’m really pleased by how many are starting anew on Lemmy. I giggled like a little kid when I saw HydroHomies was already up.

Reddit experimenting with blocking mobile browsers

They act like everyone already uses reddit and the users are so addicted they’ll put up with anything.
It seems like a lot of users are. I deleted my Reddit account (for the whatever good that does) but have gone back to peek a few times - very few people seem to care. The black out, the app shenanigans, the power-mad mods; it’s just a minor inconvenience. API, IPO, VC, what’s that? Just gimme my crude humor and canned outrage!!

Americans are losing the ability to walk
“Hey, George! I’m at the Starbucks on your corner. Y’know what would be funny? You drive your van over here and park right in front. I’ll video you the whole way. It will look totally spontaneous and it will be an awesome Tik Tok. Wait, wait, let me stand in the window so I get a good shot. Ok, I’m focused on you, start the van!”

(Newly Trans - MTF) Seeking advice about feeling femme
Start a skin care or hair care regimen. Skin care for the face, neck, and décolletage can be done inexpensively, try looking up “oil cleansing” (only requires water, washcloth, and olive oil). Get in the habit of putting on body lotion after you shower - scented lotion is a sneaky way to “wear” perfume, too!
Get your ears pierced, and stick with neutral studs for now.
Start using lip balm, particularly in stick form like Chapstick or Blistex. It will keep the skin of your lips healthy and soft and get you used to applying and wearing lip products.
Groom your nails. Keep them cut neatly with the edges filed smooth. Use lotion, olive oil, or cuticle balm on the skin around the nails. Maintaining your nails now will serve you well if you start using polish or growing them longer in the future, too.

Eating the bugs?
I’ve eaten a few things made with powdered crickets. They were ok. I think treating it as a protein powder and adding it to baked goods makes the idea of eating “bugs” more palatable for most people.

I keep having this image of the owner of a small cottage who has gradually been making his cottage lovely, repairing bits, adding cozy furniture, hanging out with his friends playing his ukulele on the porch.
The huge apartment building down the road burns down, and he invites the huge crowd of refugees into his cottage for shelter. They immediately start complaining that his cottage is too small, it doesn’t have an elevator, how come there’s no exercise room, ewww there’s cat hair on this rocking chair, that color of pain sucks, how could you be so stupid as to have a slow cooker in your kitchen, we need to add on so tell your friends to get off the porch so we can turn it into a sexy new studio…..

What’s at Stake as Southern Baptists Move to Bar Women Pastors
I just started reading The Handmaid’s Tale (never saw the series). It’s too weird, too parallel. I might have to stop reading.

What's your definition of one-bagging?
30 liter backpack. Wearing one outfit and carrying two outfits in the pack. A little hand laundry every day or two.
Less stuff, fewer worries. This is as pared down as I want to go, and I can travel indefinitely with it.
Everyone needs to work out the best system for them, and they are all going to be different.

Knitting a cabled turtleneck sweater called “Orosi” by Carol Feller. I’m fussing over the armsceye and short rows for the bust dart, so I’ve set it aside for a while until I get it figured out. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/orosi

I’ve made an account on beehaw and lemmy.world as well under the same username, and I probably will make ones under other popular instances just in case.
Probably a better choice is UNpopular instances. Smaller ones. People who don’t quite grasp the federation concept are flooding in from Reddit, joining the larger instances out of FOMO, and overwhelming them.

We Must Banish “Bootstraps” Mythology From American Life
“Pull yourself up by your bootstraps” was meant to illustrate the impossibility of success all on your own. You can’t lift yourself up by pulling on the top of your boots.
“Shroedinger’s cat” was meant to illustrate the impossibility of complex systems being caught in an undefined state like an atomic particle could. The cat is alive or dead before you open the box.
“One bad apple” didn’t mean that there’s only one bad guy, the rest are fine. Quite the opposite. The entire phrase is “one bad apple spoils the whole bunch.”
“My country, right or wrong” is not actually about blind loyalty. The rest of the saying talks about if right it should be celebrated and if wrong it should be corrected.
It is fascinating how all these various sayings are being used to mean the opposite of what they originally meant.

Man accosts 9 y/o cis girl at track meet, accuses her of being trans, while his wife calls girl's two mothers "genital mutilator, groomer, pedophile". Kelowna, British Columbia

At least I am an adult, and can handle it. This poor little girl is only 9 years old! And it didn’t happen in a private bathroom, it happened to her in front of her classmates and an entire audience watching her track meet!
