There was a point toward the end of 2024 when Trump could have come out and said the moon is made of cheese and polls would say 50% of Americans agree with him. The fact that in less than two years Trump has lost 50% of his base is insane. He's is hemorrhaging support.

If numbers keep moving this way the midterm elections, which happen later this year will be interesting to say the least.

One interesting point in the article you posted rather than OP's is that according to Ipsos only 17% of Americans approve of taking Greenland. I have no clue what the truth is but that number 'feels' a little more accurate.

In short that would mean 17% of Americans are ride or die MAGA which sadly is a believable number.

To me it makes sense, there are a ton of ethical ramifications to the EMH being sentient that the people of the federation would likely have a very hard time coming to grips with.

EMH on the other hand is just a standard hologram, not one created via extenuating circumstances. Possibly a better modern analogue would be the meat and dairy industry. People in modern times commonly accept that dogs are sentient unique individuals with their own personalities, likes, wants and a possibly even a soul. But cows are mindless automatons where it's okay to use them for our pleasure. They aren't 'real' to people the way dogs and cats are. Most people don't want to consider the ethical ramifications of every meal they eat especially when they've been doing things one way for the majority of their life.

If EMH is sentient does that mean they have to stop the use of the holodeck all together? Do they have to "dumb down" the processing of holodeck characters to prevent it from accidentally creating a sentient life? And what would be the ethical implications of all of your holodeck adventures? If you have sex with someone on a holodeck adventure is that considered rape or sexual assault? What is consent if your programmed to feel a certain way from inception.

These are heavy issues for the average federation grunt to have to ponder every time they want to blow off some steam. OR they can just put EMH in the same bucket as every other holodeck character who thinks they are alive but in reality are probably just a few lines of code sitting on the computers storage.

Unless you are being told by your doctor you can not get vaccinated, you should get vaccinated. End of story. Heard immunity helps protect those in our society who have serious health issues and can't get vaccinated.

Christmas at it's heart is a religious holiday, it deeply bothers me, to be immersed in Christian family values for what now seems to almost two months out of the year.

I've never been a member of the Judeo-Christian faiths, I didn't have a particularly good upbringing so I'm not really close with my family. I'm addition I don't have children and I have zero plans on becoming a parent. So in short, this holiday is not for me.

Out of curiosity do you have any evidence to back that claim for those raised in an environment where you have a high degree of science education? Like I know without science to explain the natural world, religion makes "sense". But as long as you have a strong knowledge base in science I'm not convinced people would be easily swayed by religion.

For example, I was raised without religion, and I've never seen much of a reason to learn about it. If one made their choice to abstain from meat for ethical reasons and not health reasons I'm not sure their lifestyle would be drastically different from their counterparts, then again I'm not sure what particular behavior patterns you are referring to which could throw off studies.
