Reddit's content has taken an absolute nose dive, I still lurk, but every time I think about posting, I close out the tab and leave now. The site has also become an ad filled dumpster fire.

One year after being bought for $44 billion, X is worth $19 billion
If only more people would move to Mastodon it could drop another 50% in value!

*braces for down votes and possible ban*
I have a friend who has come to reflect this exact behavior to an extraordinary degree of accuracy.
It's interesting because the near puritanical nature of their responses to nearly anything has become more extreme than even the most devoutly religions individuals. Obviously the focus of their evangelizing is very different, but it has become difficult to even have a conversation.
I'll give you an example: I saw a new game called Pal World, which looked absurd, mentioned and was instantly met with the fact that the game was unacceptable because it supports forced labor.
Additionally, there seems to be an immense amount of hypocrisy in regards to what is good and what is bad, largely driven by what best I can refer to as their "leftist Zeitgeist." As bad as I can tell now, according to them, I am a liberal, and apparently liberals are bad, and the only true salvation is being a leftist?
Of course, I have a much more varied and complex set of moral and political values that likely don't fall under a singular label... But what do I know about anything.

CDC reports highest childhood vaccine exemption rate ever in the U.S.
It can't possibly have any relationship to morons like Florida's Surgeon General citing bogus claims and vaccine efficacy denialism could it?

‘The Worst Internet-Research Ethics Violation I Have Ever Seen’ | The most persuasive “people” on a popular subreddit turned out to be a front for a secret AI experiment.
Not remotely surprised.
I dabble in conversational AI for work, and am currently studying its capabilities for thankfully (imo at least) positive and beneficial interactions with a customer base.
I've been telling friends and family recently that for a fairly small amount of money and time investment, I am fairly certain a highly motivated individual could influence at a minimum a local election. Given that, I imagine it would be very easy for Nations or political parties to easily manipulate individuals on a much larger scale, that IMO nearly everything on the Internet should be suspect at this point, and Reddit is atop that list.

We have to stop ignoring AI’s hallucination problem
The simple solution is not to rely upon AI. It's like a misinformed relative after a jar of moonshine, they might be right some of the time, or they might be totally full of shit.
I honestly don't know why people are obsessed with relying on AI, is it that difficult to look up the answer from a reliable source?

Good, no child should be placed with parents who may discriminate against them for their natural state of being.

razor blades
Multiple homes I've lived in have had these slots in the medicine cabinets lol.
Did they anticipate people not living long enough to care? Or that some biome would form to use the blades as food?
Interesting decisions all around.

Greta’s school strikes led 30% of Swiss citizens to change habits
Look, any progress being made about environmental awareness is great, HOWEVER; this bullshit concept of offloading the responsibility of climate change strictly to the consumer is never going to fix the problem.
The people responsible for the largest amount of climate change are the insatiably wealthy that give absolutely no fucks about how much their mega corp ruins the planet.
I don't know how the rest of the world feels, but here in the U.S., it's basically impossible to buy anything that doesn't come packaged in single use plastics, and half our population has been brainwashed to believe climate change is not even a concerning issue.
The companies that profit from blowing everything up should be responsible for cleaning everything up. I do my best to reduce, reuse and recycle, but my city doesn't even recycle plastic bags because it clogs the machines, and everything comes in damn plastic bags. Putting solar on your house now comes with a high possibility of having your insurance policy canceled, etc, it's literally one barrier after another, and my carbon footprint is pretty damn low.
Sorry for my rant, it is just very frustrating.

Missouri law bars divorce during pregnancy – even in cases of violence
What is wrong with these people?
We need to start an organization that helps to rehome any woman in one of these states to a state with sane laws.
I feel truly sorry for the women who have been brainwashed since birth to agree with these laws that subjugate them, and continue to vote for the people passing them.

Assuming this isn't an attempt at trolling, Trump ran up the deficit nearly double that of Biden. Given that the argument is generally government spending leads to inflation, how exactly would that not indicate who is more responsible for inflationary costs?

A San Francisco library is turning off Wi-Fi at night to keep people without housing from using it
There are so many problems with this.
Far too many homeless people, there is so much wealth in this nation, there is no reason we cannot provide ample shelter. This probably is going to continue to become worse with the disproportionate wealth distribution and the continual increase in use or automation and AI.
Additionally, we should have broader access to wifi, specifically for those who are homeless and need access to online resources, so they can eventually no longer be homeless. Seems like a great federal program opportunity, if we actually want people to be able to recover from being homeless. No one is going to become homeless or stay homeless because of the badass government subsidized wifi.
This seems incredibly self perpetuating on the cities behalf. It's like making places uncomfortable to sleep upon... Why not invest that money into someplace people can goto sleep and get the assistance they need to exist in society.

Way to go, guys!
I'm convinced if it wasn't the conflict in Palestine it would be some other issue that would prevent them from being able to "morally" support Biden.
Yes the conflict in Palestine is terrible, yes there are atrocities occuring, no I don't have any of the solutions.
There seem to be a subset of people that only want to see the negative in every aspect of life and this carries over to politicians/politics in general. The grass is forever more green elsewhere.
I recently asked a friend trapped in this bubble if they had seen the new Mario movie, as I attempt to avoid politics with them at this point in time, and I received the answer, "No, fuck Chris Pratt." I didn't bother asking why, but it seems that nearly ever aspect of life, except the ones they choose to conveniently ignore is reason for social outrage and some how it is "Biden's Fault," with complete disregard to what the alternative looks like.
But 3rd parties!!! Oh yes, because statistically splitting your vote between the only two groups with a chance of being elected to office is the "moral solution."
I don't ever want to hear about "harm reduction" from them again, when their "moral" decision results in women's healthcare being a literal afterthought and rights for a variety of marginalized communities being stripped away. 1,500 people a week are still dying from COVID in the U.S., but hey, let's help elect the party that wants to continue erroding any remaining social safety nets, because you know, people who get sick don't matter as much as this months zeitgeist of social outrage.

actual causes of global warming rule
The biggest impact you can have is reducing your consumption of goods. Making purchases last longer, skipping upgrade cycles, and in general having less.
Less manufacturing, less packaging, less shipping, less employees making goods commuting to work etc etc. However; that doesn't really fit in with our current global economic survival strategy. Yes, less red meat is very important too, for the world as a whole.
I'm of the mind set of every bit helps, but it's absurd the burden is always laid upon the individual and not those actively profiting from the destruction of the environment.
