From what I am understanding, it was a 40 minute window when the malicious model was available to download in the repositories. After it was downloaded, they had all the time until it was detected in the organization to exfiltrate the data, which was potentially weeks or months.

It's not, many EVs intentionally heat up to over 50°C during fast charging. They also have several layers of material between the bottom of the battery and the road along with airflow across the entire area, so radiant heat isn't going to have a meaningful impact.
It certainly can vary quite a bit as the graphs in the article show. Seems that cell chemistry, thermal management, and total cycles are the largest drivers of degradation. EV's with generally smaller, more frequently cycled packs, no active thermal management, and cell chemistry not optimized for that use case will not fare well in hot climates. Something with a larger liquid cooled pack, that doesn't experience as many cycles, will fare much better regardless of the chemistry and easily still have useful amounts of capacity after 20 years.
As a data point, this is from an early 2016 EV with 90,000 miles, roughly 50% DCFS, and about half of its life in a temperate climate. Nearing 10 years and just under 3% degradation.
Do you want realtime traffic updates, live charger status, streaming entertainment, software updates, emergency crash response, Wi-Fi hotspot, remote alarm status and controls, remote telematics? If yes to any of those, then you have your answer.
Of course, simply having a connection opens it up for privacy abuses, just like a smartphone, there are number of reasons why consumers would want a connected vehicle.
Another likely reason for the engine 2 compressor stall is due to debris from the left wing being ingested. Either way though, as you pointed out, it wasn't going to fly on one remaining engine with that takeoff weight.
You can make it work on 120V, it just uses ~20-30% more energy due to the overhead of running all the vehicle systems for so much longer while charging.
Every vehicle I've had with an electric parking brake operated the same way. Hold the park button while moving and it starts clamping the parking brake down, let off the button and it starts to release. So you can basically PWM the parking brake in an emergency.
For sure, I agree the phone integration is a better solution and could easily take the place of any connection requirements for the vehicle, was just providing insight into why any consumer might justify it.
Why the manufacturers push it would be a totally different answer...

Maybe I just misunderstood the point you were going for and need some clarification.
Was pretty interesting seeing the Gen3 car they had in the fan area at some of the Formula E races last year with no rear brakes. They still had front brakes (article states otherwise, not sure if they meant rear or if there was some later change I am not aware of).
At any rate, definitely exciting to see the performance levels starting to eclipse the combustion counterparts while being lower cost.
Interesting to see how much of a difference the study showed between vegetarians and non-vegetarians taking the same supplements and performing the same workout routine. Vegetarians had a gain of 2.4kg of lean muscle mass while the non-vegetarians had a gain of 1.9kg of lean muscle mass. That is a substantial difference, will be quite curious if similar results are replicated in further studies.
Still, the conclusion is that people on a vegan diet are not deficient in creatine but some extra (3-5 grams/day) could be beneficial in boosting memory later in life and help with muscle development/fatigue.
