What is your boomer opinion
Music in restaurants and bars is just too loud. I know why the music is loud, but I am still going to shake my fist at it like Grandpa Simpson.

When things hit the fan on July 1st
I figured why wait to make the switch, hence this comment is here, and not on Reddit.

Reddit insists on being “fairly paid” amid API price protest plans, layoffs
They can insist on being fairly paid, but the users have to think the transaction is fair as well. Ask Digg how much their platform was worth when all of the users were gone.

As an incoming Redditor who’s thrilled to see Fediverse alternatives getting some content and traction
I have been trying to comment instead of just lurking. Its against my natural tendencies, but I want to see this place live, so I thought I would be the change I want to see in the world.

Is it just me?
Is Infinity FOSS? Its my preferred client, but I had no idea it was open source. Would be great if it supported Lemmy.

It’s official — LCD TVs won’t see any further development.
I am going to skip LCD tvs altogether. Right now I am still using my first hd tv, a Plasma TV from 2008, and when I replace it, it will likely be with an OLED.

And thats the reason why I chose another instance. I want to be able to downvote when people post terrible things. Who knows how long it will take for moderates to remove something, or if they will at all.

Clients for Android - What are the options?
I hope some of the reddit apps migrate to lemmy. I used Infinite, so it would be my preference to see come over.

Do People Actually Want to Wear a Headset All the Time?
I can't imagine most people will want to wear that headset for more than the 2 hours the battery lasts. I know I haven't when wearing existing vr headsets. I seem to max out at about 30 minutes.
I think to get to a consumer version Apple will want to drop all of the glass and metal and go for lighter plastic instead. They need to drop the secondary outward facing screen as well for weight, battery and cost savings.
If things can get comparable to thicker framed normal glasses, that will be when VR/AR can really become mainstream.

I am not logging back into Twitter. They already lost my trust.

F in the chat
Can't mourn reddit too much, so much good stuff is already here, and if one instance tries shady things, then you can just hop on over to another one.

If they don't change course they will. But even if they do change course on API fees, if they still plan on an ipo, then its only a matter of time until they find another way to enshitify their site.

There Will Never Be Another Twitter
Social media so far has not been replaced with a like for like service when something falls out of popularity. Facebook was not just a Myspace clone. It probably won't be Bluesky or Mastodon that replace Twitter for most of their current users.

Name a single feature you’d like to see in a Switch 2
Wireless Dock for dual screen gaming. Make it easier to port those ds, 3ds, and wii u games. I love having inventory and maps more readily accessible.

Where do you think Nintendo will take Zelda from here?

It was the producer Eiji Aonuma who said that Breath of the Wild was the new template going forward. https://www.eurogamer.net/open-world-zelda-is-a-format-for-the-future-of-the-series-says-producer-eiji-aonuma

Random YouTube comment on the whole Reddit situation that perfectly sums up my thoughts
I think they view it as ripping off the bandaid now before their IPO. They probably figured they would lose some single digit % of users that would recover over time, and now they will have full control over the experience with no 3rd party apps, which they will want in order to squeeze more money over time.

What niche reddit community do you want to see find a place on the fediverse?
Honestly its just my local city subreddit, and the community for my favorite 2nd tier sports team. It has barely enough users even on reddit though, so it probably won't survive with a smaller overall user base.

What are some harmless ways to mess with people?
I like plugging a second wireless mouse into a coworkers computer. The secret is to be subtle about it. Just turn the mouse on and jiggle it slightly. Do that randomly over a series of days. If they don't notice you can always get more aggressive with it.
