The End of Roe Is Having a Chilling Effect on Pregnancy

"I'm pro life"

Oh cool, so you voted for and support better healthcare? Better pay for teachers? Allotting more tax money to support schools? An increase in WIC? Maternity leave? Paternity leave? Foster system funding? School lunch programs? Childcare/daycare programs? More funding for women's health centers that provide STI testing and contraception? An increase to Medicaid's asset limit of $2k that hasn't changed since 1974? Mental health programs? An increase in SSI for disabled children/parents because no one can survive off $10.9k/year anymore?

No?!? Then shut up, you're pro forced birth, not pro life.

I don't understand Temu.

It's because it's a data stealing company. They require 24 different types of permissions, including keylogging, biometrics (your fingerprint), your wifi network, your Bluetooth, photos, contact info and it saves your payment details, just by using the app. It also was recently flagged for malware. You're getting a good price because you're paying for it in a different way

I'm doing my part

My neighbor HATES me because I've been converting my backyard into clover. We have fireflies, Butterflies, bees, bunnies, all sorts of wildlife. It smells beautiful, but we are an oasis amongst upper-middle class lawn zombies... Mowing, edging, pesticide spraying, weed killing zombies.

Meanwhile, I have milkweed, clover, chive, snapdragons, black eyed susans, grapes, raspberries, lilac, echinacea, chamomile, lavender, hydrangea, coreopsis, and salvia. I welcome wasps that eat pests, I buy bags of ladybugs, I compost... I'm really trying. It's only 1/4 an acre, but I'm trying.

Elon Musk is reportedly taking control of the inner workings of US government agencies

I can verify this! My roommate works for the DOD. He can't tell me much, but every federal worker has been warned they're going to be purged and replaced with staff Elon chooses. In addition, mandatory Return To Work orders have meant that many of his coworkers will be let go for "missing work" despite the fact that the military knows they moved and they've been working remotely for almost 5 years. It's skuzzy as fuck.

Chonkasaurus

I love stuff like this. Here are some real dinosaur/extinct creature names!

  • Sauroniops: Literally means Eye of Sauron

  • Dracorex Hogwartsia: Dragon King of Hogwarts

  • Thanos Simonattoi: after Thanos

  • Irritator Challengeri: he was hard to dig up and scientists were angry

  • Gasosaurus: discovered while a gas company was being built.

  • Gojirasaurus: self explanatory

  • Attenborosaurus: plesiosaurus named after David Attenborough.

  • Crichtonosaurus: similar to an ankylo and named after author of Jurassic Park

  • Bambiraptor sounds cute, and it's named after the deer (because it was deer sized), but it was a fierce and deadly creature.

There's so many more; I could nerd out forever. I miss when I was a little girl, and people would actually talk to me about dinosaurs...

The county coroner is an ELECTED position.

I'm a mortician who's worked substantially with autopsies. To be the county coroner, you do not need a degree, you do not need experience in mortuary science, postmortem science, forensics, pathology, NOTHING. All you need to be the county coroner, is to be popular.

Meanwhile, funeral directors in the USA need to go through years of college and continuing education, because we're literally the last line of defense when coroners/doctors screw up. I've caught dozens of mistakes the coroner has made and I'm sick of it. The most recently was a shaken and bruised baby having cause of death listed as SIDS.

I no longer blindly trust autopsies for accurate cause of death. If the mortician needs 4 years of medical school, the freaking county coroner would should be required for at LEAST that to be elected.

He's not only hot; he's making an example out of cruel millionaires .. millionaires who prefer money and let people die, without ANY hesitation. So yeah, it's not like being attracted to Dahmer, it's more like being attracted to Katniss Everdeen.

He's very confused

If you're homeless or low income, there are programs through DHS that will send you a free phone and plan. It's not a great phone, but they still give people the ability to apply for jobs online, contact hospitals/case workers/ shelters, and to be safe in case of an emergency. I'm not sure if other states have it, but Michigan and Colorado do

Americans say money can buy happiness. Here's their price tag.

And yet disability is at a whopping $914/month federally and you can't have more than $2k in your bank or they take away your food stamps and healthcare... a number that hasn't changed since 1974 and would be $13k if adjusted for inflation. I didn't choose to be disabled. I paid my taxes when I could work, to prevent suffering; but I'm now living with a family member and selling nudes to afford the rent, bills, vehicle costs, insurance costs, prescriptions that aren't covered, service dog expenses, etc.

You're not wrong for wanting to avoid a situation because of the potential of screaming children, but it's important to remember that, with parents, it's a package deal. To avoid overstimulation, try and go to a park for the first meeting. Like get coffee and go to a place with a playground where the toddler can run wild, and the 6 month can be in a stroller or rocker. Being outside vs bring in a building where screams can echo, makes a big difference.

Something that helps me hang-outs with my friends who have kids, is remembering that screaming children are inevitable... but most of the time, I'm not enjoying the company of my friends alongside the random, misbehaving ones. This time, you can make a friend.

Chat is this real

I really hope a politician bans those "Class Action Waiver" and "Revoking Right to Arbitration" riders that are getting put into everyone's Term and Conditions contracts. We should have the right to band together if a corporation fucks us over and this is ridiculous.

They're complex and awesome creatures. I had one, named Alfredo, who lived for years, because I did the research.

Nearly all hermit crabs have been kidnapped from the beach, and that made me feel so guilty... I didn't know when I got him from a mall.

They can't just go in a tiny aquarium, or they'll get depressed, malnourished, and die.

They need heat rocks to remember basking in the sun; they love snacks (Alfredo adored cheez-its covered in peanut butter); they have gills, so their shells must have water in them, or they'll stop breathing; they love exercising... you can get the hermit crab version of a hamster wheel and they will play on it all day. They're also really social. They want friends, places to hide, places to dig, to roam and explore, and if they do, they'll live a long life.

Spouse having trouble adjusting [transfem]

Cisgenger woman, so please ignore me if this isn't welcome, but I would love to help!

I wash all my bras in the machine, on cold and hang them dry. Putting into a lingerie bag is a personal preference. (I only do it if I'm washing other stuff with zippers) If there are deodorant stains, vinegar is pretty effective. Soak the bra and use either a toothbrush or (I know this sounds crazy) the foam top of a dry-cleaner coat hanger, to scrub off deodorant. Idk why the coat hanger foam works but it's great!

I'm a professional cosplayer and mortician (so a seamstress, SFX makeup artist, wig stylist, all in one), and I'm happy to share any of my knowledge! My friend group is mostly people who loathe and/or changed their assigned gender, so it's a subject close to my heart. 🩵🩷🤍🩷🩵

77% of Top Climate Scientists Think 2.5°C of Warming Is Coming—And They're Horrified

I have a postmortem science degree, but hobby in studying paleontology/pre-history. It took a rise of only 10°C and excess pollution to wipe out over 83% of all life on the planet between the Permian and Triassic eras. Entire chains of life just wiped out. Carbon dating, sediment layer study, fossil records, they all show how screwed me are if we keep this up. The earth will survive, it always does, but it took 30 million years before life recovered.

Humans need to learn from the past, see the consequences of what most would think is a small change, but the ones in power don't seem to give a shit.
