Elon Musk tells advertisers: ‘Go fuck yourself’ - The Verge

“That is what everybody on Earth will know,” he said. “We’ll be gone, and it’ll be gone because of an advertiser boycott.”

Oh no, not at all, dear ... everybody on Earth is perfectly aware that it is YOU who is killing the company. Twisting the narrative to feel better within yourself ain't gonna change the fact. Why would any advertiser worth a damn, want to be associated with Stormfront 2.0?

It took me hours of trying to read through not-my-kind-of-jargon to understand

I started off going down that road of trying to understand it, but my laziness and impatience got in the way and said "just start using it and you'll work it out." And that's exactly what happened for me. In a way, the explanations made it all sound much more confusing than it really is. Sometimes you just gotta take a deep breath and dive in.

Did this site live and die in 4 days?

Reply in thread

I've been a member of reddit for 17 years and it took almost a decade before it became popular with the masses. People weren't attracted to the format, didn't fully understand how reddit worked, or were unaware of it's existence for a long time, and as such reddit was more popular with the technically minded. I see the same thing here. I fully admit, I am completely lost here, and in fact, this is my first post. So it needs development, for sure, but I do believe that decentralised social networking is going to be the future ... we are coming in on the ground floor. It's just gonna take a long time before the fediverse is even seen by the vast majority, let alone accessible and understood.

Anyone else still kinda miss Reddit?

I was there 17 years. Can't say I miss it, but I do lament it. The community there helped change my life in some very significant ways. But it became glaringly obvious that the administration have little to no appreciation or respect for their users. I've been enjoying watching them scramble to re-engage lost value in their IPO. I will only return to participate on r/place ... whether that's thru the void or a "Fuck u/spez" ... they will get my traffic for that.

As Reddit protests turn to porn-bombing, advertisers face increasing brand safety concerns

Reply in thread

The author appears to have a poor understanding of the full scope of what the protests are about, let alone the variety of creative actions being taken. This seems to be a marketing media publication, so that's their focus. I guess what's most important is that advertisers and others in the industry are noticing that Reddit has lost control of it's user-base and has become a risky investment. That's a pretty good result for the protests. The finer details don't matter so much.
