Yep, I used to have a special card I had to keep in my wallet. It had a special number for them to call, and half of it had space for me to write down details (who/what/where) in the event I couldn’t get them to call

Microbiologist here: I was taught that part of the origin of the symbol was the way a specific worm was removed, you had a stick or rod or whatever and you made a little incision where the worm is, then slowly pull it out and wind it around the rod

One of man’s first medical procedures

How did that person at work get sacked?

We were upgrading computers to go to windows 8, they decided for new machines for everyone. There was a pallet of computers outside the IT office.

One day the IT reported he was missing a couple computers. Boss decides not to publicize that and put up a camera.

Next day they walked out a guy who had been working as a temp for a year and had just been converted to full time. They told him if the computers came back they wouldn’t go to the police

What's an insider secret about somewhere you used to work?

Not the original post, but it’s usually speed. Manufacturing employees get pushed for more output, and usually that means that maintenance gets rushed.

A decade ago I was working somewhere with massive production machines with big rollers to pull the product through. One guy left the machine running to clean it so he could just sort of buff the rollers to clean them instead of scrubbing.

He got his arm sucked in up to his shoulder before someone was able to hit the e-stop

We had to do skits. Broke it down by chapters and each group did like a page or two. I was the son in the scene where he’s working with his dad in disguise right when Odysseus returns home and sees all the other guys trying to bang his wife
