I don't think consciousness necessarily has to be biological, but LLMs certainly aren't. If a model says "Fuck Doom, I wanna play cyberpunk!" I'd be more inclined to believe it has some consciousness and agency.

Yeah, I heard an interview with Lucas Pope where he was saying he was working on something but wouldn't be telling anyone anything about it - because he didn't want a hundred crappy copies of whatever innovative idea he has, before his game is even published.

I'm not knowledgeable enough for my opinion to have value, but I keep hearing that Chinese models are achieving similar results without the huge infrastructure investment - cos we aren't selling them the chips. If you can achieve similar results without spending hundreds of billions on datacentres - then it's possible that these companies have made an oopsie.

In the extremely unlikely event that it'll run on my steam deck - or its eventual successor - I'll probably play it in a few years when it's on sale. But there's so much good stuff out there already that I'm in no rush.

That makes sense. That said, I'm not sure superintelligence is just a matter of processing speed. It's an interesting question - give me a complex problem and say a thousand years to work on it. I kinda feel there's some problems I'm just not equipped to solve, no matter how much processing time I have. But of course, that's impossible to test. And in computer terms, you could copy a whole team of me to work together. Hmm.

Yeah, I concur that the difference between AGI and ASI is likely moot. If an intelligent machine is able to upgrade itself to be more intelligent - well, I think we'd all do that if we could! I'm not sure that more intelligence and faster processing are the same thing, but I'm also not sure that we could distinguish between the two in practical terms.

I kinda feel like actual AI will not be made by humans, but by a model that is able to reprogram and upgrade itself until it has some sort of agency. That said, my experience in the field is from the 90s so I really know fuck all that's relevant today.

I prefer Firefox, so I was using that as default browser. Windows asked me every fucking time I started my laptop if I wanted to use edge as default. Sometimes it just went ahead and made the change anyway. Windows was consuming loads of my download data, fuck knows what for. Then the copilot stuff. Finally installed mint and feel like I got my laptop back.
