Here are the patents Nintendo and The Pokémon Company are suing Palworld over

Reply in thread

Why is everyone here pretending like palworld isn't a straight up Pokemon clone that went a bit too close with the designs? I mean the game was basically marketed as pokemon with guns. I know you guys have this new hate for Nintendo, but this isn't even them.

Because it doesn't matter. Palworld isn't getting sued for copyright infringement, it is being sued for patent infringement.

If I made a game about an Italian contractor with a red hat and mustache that fights mushroom people and turtles, you guys would defend it and claim it isn't a copyright issue lol

Again, Nintendo isn't suing for copyright infringement, but for patent infringement. It's more like Nintendo suing Monster Hunter Stories for allowing you to ride your monsters (this is literally one of the patents Pal World is getting sued for).

What's the most petty/pointless/pedantic hill you're willing to die on?

Imagine caring as a value, for example, my care™ about this topic is 2, whereas yours is 5.

In this interpretation, "I don't care" implies that the care™ value of the speaker is 0, by the same logic, saying "I care" implies that their care™ value is greater than 0.

With that in mind, "I could care less" implies there is a care™ value lower than the one they currently hold. Meanwhile, "I couldn't care less" implies the opposite, there is no care™ value lower, which is only true for 0 (AKA "I don't care").

I think you might be underselling how important things like the steam workshop and steam's multiplayer support are.

Games like Starbound or Don't Starve benefit a lot from the workshop.

While insert any party game gains a lot out of steam's multiplayer support and friend list.

Also, while I don't use Linux myself, Steam is one of the main reasons why Linux Gaming is a thing.

You realize most people that dabble at gardening do not in fact know anything about that right?

Most people that dabble in gardening will kill a lot of plants, and when they do try to understand why, they're not going to pick up a book on gardening to understand how plants work. They will search on the internet why their plant died and try random suggestions (the equivalent of running random commands on Linux) until something works, or failing that, they will more likely move to a hardier plant like a cactus (the equivalent of moving to Windows).

Sure it's not as beautiful and is prickly, but at least it doesn't just die.

Not really. Yellow paint isn't a thing for shits and giggles, it's there to make the game readable.

Before yellow paint, games needed to have good art direction (instead of "realism") or good environment design to either make it clear something is meant to be interacted with or to point the player in the right direction.

Simply removing yellow paint doesn't suddenly improve art direction or environment design, it just makes the game needlessly hard to read.

If dial gauges weren't what you chuckleheads grew up with (I'm 38 so I understand the nostalgia) you'd realize they aren't really all that well designed.

That's not actually true, studies show that analog dials (or digital imitations) are better than regular numbers or bars as speed displays.

The thing about analog dials is that they offer a lower mental load than a simple number. Seeing the dial move is a better indication of speed change than a number changing, and the "wasted" space in the dial offers a comparative idea of how fast you're going.

The human brain is just much better at perceiving relative changes than absolute ones. Seeing a 20 rise to 80 doesn't convey as much info as seeing a dial in the bottom rise to the middle.

I want my average speed, instantaneous speed, average miles per gallon, instantaneous miles per gallon, range, engine temperature, music track, outside temperature, inside temperature, tire pressure, time, vehicle orientation, all at once. They're normally all available, but hidden in different menus and screens.

The reason this information isn't readily available is probably because putting more information only serves to increase the mental load on the driver which might cause distractions, and consequently, more accidents.

I believe that the people in lemmy are reasonable and kind and good irl. The same I believe of you.

At no point I was aggressive or said learning is impossible. So why do you feel the need to build a scarecrow out of my comment just to push it down?

All I did was point out my experience seeing others trying to dabble in gardening and made comparisons to how users approach OSs.
