I’m not on lemmy.world, but I’d just like to say that im always sad when I see communities using Discord for communication. It’s the exact opposite of lemmy. And if one considers the current Reddit measures as harsh, they are pretty soft compared to Discords stance on such matters. Information that goes in there is basically lost. So go the entire way with Matrix.

Because blocking intolerant folks is a must in order to have a civilized conversation. It has nothing to do with creating echo chambers or being left/right wing.

Which is likely true, but kinda weird to me. I do not have a tendency to select the movies I watch based on the actors. But I assume that isn’t true for most folks. I mean apparently.

What you describe as idealism is a dystopian world for most people. Holy hell. Apart from it leaving out all the nitty gritty details of reality. Also apart from this being entirely possible without blockchain.

Woher kommt das Gefühl, auf Twitch und YouTube wären mehr deutsche unterwegs. Liegt das vielleicht eher daran was die Plattformen dir an Inhalten anzeigen. Ich würde das sehr sehr stark bezweifeln.

Das „nerdige“ an Reddit/Lemmy ist tatsächlich denke ich, wie andere schon erwähnt haben, dass es weniger Mainstream ist. Ich erinnere mich an einen Post in r/de eines Lehrers der feststellen musste, dass die Kids aus seiner Klasse Reddit für eine Pornoseite gehalten haben. Man bekommt halt das angezeigt wonach man sucht ;-)

Hm doch. Ich finde das brauchen wir schon. Eine so kleine Anzahl an Nutzern wie es hier gerade gibt schafft es einfach nicht die ganzen Nieschen zu füllen. Reddit ist gerade so interessant weil es zu jedem Thema nicht nur eine Person, sondern eine ganze Hand voll gibt die dazu beitragen. Passiert das hier nicht wird es immer Niesche bleiben. Schön mal reinzuschauen aber im Alltag nutzt man dann doch wieder Reddit.

Google should just buy Reddit. They could augment their search with it and would have an awesome basis for their LLM stuff.

But you would still need an authority that can unilaterally make changes to these ownership records. People die, things get lost, stuff happens. So it can't all be based on signing with private keys of individual persons. At that point: Why not run a central database of it all. It's cheaper, more efficient and you could still publish a public record for traceability.

I really don't see any problem that Blockchain could solve better than other solutions. Except Cryptocurrency.

No actually we don't. Chromium isn't a reference implementation. And while XHTML was handled poorly the idea behind it was actually very interesting. Didn't pan out and was buried years ago. So what.

Oh das vermisse ich auch. Alle Spieleentwickler reden immer von den ach so tollen Social Funktionen und Communities. Aber effektiv ist alles viel anonymer geworden als früher.

Ich erinnere mich noch dran Battlefield einmal die Woche um eine feste Uhrzeit zu spielen. Immer auf dem gleichen Server auf dem dann auch die üblichen verdächtigen aufgeschlagen sind. War ne coole Zeit als man noch dieses „Ah guck mal der Squad ist heute auch wieder dabei“ Gefühl hatte.

What were the alternatives? One thing I can say about zoom is that it’s easy to use, barely ever has any issues and handles a huge number of participants without a sweat.

I recall having used MS Teams before. But it often wouldn’t work, had server issues and couldn’t handle large audiences well.
