To imagine there was a long time games didn't offer enough demos anymore, and now we get so much that they need to be filtered 😂

Windows 7 and 8 now dead for gaming, as new Steam update pulls support
Well W7 is practically 15 years old, and already stopped receiving updates itself. It's not really up to Steam to keep it up and running even especially if Microsoft no longer bothers to update the OS, it would just get more and more problematic, and they also had to let it go at some point.
I don't think anyone cares about W8 though, even Microsoft itself barely seemed to put effort in making it work.

PS5 Homescreen Now Replaces Unique Video Game Art With Annoying Ads You Can’t Turn Off
What an absolutely terrible fucking idea.
Can't wait for major story spoilers to show up full-screen on the background of the homescreen because clickbaiters on YouTube are fucking assholes.
Also really don't need product placement on the home, I am on my PS5 to play games, not to fucking buy stuff. It's a console, not a goddamn webshop.
This really needs an option to get disabled.
Edit: Reading again it just seems to get worse. Looking at the alternative game ads, offers and promotions when selecting a game seems borderline against consumer laws, at least in EU. Especially kids could be easily targeted and triggered by this. Also most of these examples make it look like you're starting up an entirely different game, it's just such a awful update all together. No self-respecting interface designer would come up with this, it's 100% corporate predatory marketing cunts that came up with this kind of stuff.

Born in the 1900s
As a 90s kid I definitely feel like there's such a huge generational gap in the past 20 years though, so much changed so rapidly since then.
Like watching MP3 players come and go. And the transition of videotapes to discs to streaming. Or watching nobody own a cellphone to the entire world not being able to go anywhere without one. As well as throwaway cameras to everyone having one in their pockets.
Pre 00s and after is such a difference in just about everything. I wonder what the pre 10s and after will be like.

Twitch rule changes make VTubers cover up and they’re furious - Dexerto

A while ago I got hit in the recommended streams with a random stream of some girl with absolutely gigantic milkers in only bodypaint. Probably got away with it as some sort of 'art' project, despite the body paint being quite bad and she was practically doing nothing on stream at all, it was just simps throwing money at her for being on screen.
Other times there's just girls in the 'Just chatting' category in tight spandex, leaving nothing to imagination, that are in suggestive poses and flaunting their gigantic tits and asses on screen. Also doing practically nothing but just posing and thanking donations.
Twitch really has weird ass rules when it comes to this shit.

In a leaked recording, Amazon cloud chief tells employees that most developers could stop coding soon as AI takes over
I don't think this guy realises his job could be replaced by AI way before that of developers.

Until Dawn's PS5 debut 28% weaker than Sony’s 2024 disaster Concord
€70 for an almost 10 year old game, which is locked to 30 FPS, often looks worse than the original, swapped out songs for worse picks. Overall seems like a downgrade.
No thanks.

What games popularized certain mechanics?
Battlefield 1942 always stands out to me as the one that popularized large scale online battles on big maps with vehicles. At the time it was revolutionary in online gaming.
Command & Conquer: Renegade came out around the same time as well, with similar features. I kinda wish that game had a sequel as well.
Another gameplay feature that comes to mind is the exclamation/question mark above NPC characters for quests. I remember it first from WarCraft 3, but I think it really kicked off with World of WarCraft to get adopted by many more games.

Sounds similar to people trying to get me into alcohol, never liked it much, but everyone always keeps pushing it as if I need to "learn" to drink it.
Fucking no. It's disgusting. I like my occasional light alcohol drink but I ain't chug down litres and piss it, and my money, away because it's "cool".

Star Citizen Developer Cloud Imperium Games Imposes 7-Day Work Week Ahead of Citizencon
An internal email sent to staff yesterday states that the company needs to “double down over the next 18 days to make sure that once again we create an amazing experience for our community.” This includes finalizing patch 3.24.2 for Star Citizen and having a Squadron 42 demo showcase for Chapter 1.
I'd probably be so inclined to just call in sick every weekend or something. Unless the employees have really been slacking and have no right, I'd not bother with doubling down.
Sounds a lot like my previous jobs where the boss would sometimes tell us to "make a career" for ourselves by working overtime, and ask us to give our absolute 200%, stating how much the clients pay "us" for some big project and how we should really give our absolute best (despite management often briefing us waayyy too late on projects and deadlines), telling us to never have a 9 to 5 mentality, yadda yadda. But never actually bothered to reflect this in our salaries whenever we did put the extra effort in. (And the occasional company pizza slice doesn't count as a reward)
It never mattered how much effort we put into something, it just meant that the next day the next thing would just pop-up and expectation became we kept putting that 200% into every project. Morale often just dropped to absolute zero around the place. Especially when after all that the boss shows up in his brand spanking new car, while telling us we should be happy to have a job, and even telling everyone they're replaceable.
Star Citizen feels like it's exactly this kind of work ethics. Now they gotta put in the extra work to be ready for their next big presentation. But after that it's probably the same song until the next one all over again.

Skyrim Is 13 Years Old, But Elder Scrolls 6 Is Nowhere in Sight While Bethesda’s First Four Games Took Only 12 Years
Reply in thread
I've said it before, and I believe that Bethesda is going to completely mess up TES6.
There are several issues with Bethesda, the major problem being they seem to have lost all creativity and they're trying to apply the same old formula to every single game with minimal changes. Then hope that modders will keep it on life support. And sadly that's how I found myself having to play their games, because without many mods it was often awful to play on PC, and I still didn't have fun thanks to repetitive content and forgettable story and characters.
Another is that they're clinging on to that damn dilapidated game engine of theirs like it's their precious baby. It's an awful engine, insanely outdated, limited and performs terribly. Starfield is a great example of how awful it is, but every game before that has had major performance issues and limitations as well.
The only redeeming feature might be that TES6 probably won't be a procedurally generated world. They really showed how repetitive and boring it can get with procedural generation. And a handcrafted world would have so much more character. They could perhaps use the procedural engine for dungeons, and enemies and their bases, or items found through the world, but not the world itself.
But I'm afraid it's just going to be a near Skyrim carbon-copy. It'll likely be an okay looking game with an okay looking game world, but I bet gameplay will be mostly unaltered from what they've been doing for over 20 years. Same old basic combat, same talking heads with lifeless animations, same sneaking and magic gameplay, etc.

This is the most ridiculous American thing I've read in a long time.
They really went above and beyond to look for any "legal" excuse to get away with it. Whoever suggested to even use this as a defense can't possibly be a human being. What an absolutely disgusting low-point for such a company..
