My 2¢

Lemmy will never be 'reddit'. The simple act of having to choose an instance (and taking the time to understand instances + how they interact with one another, something even I'm not crystal clear on) is not something your average Joe Schmo will be willing to spend the time on. Reddit, Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, etc are all one massive endlessly scrolling feeds of 'content' whereas lemmy asks you to dedicate your account to one instance. You can make another account of course, but even the process of choosing an instance will be enough to stifle growth and keep lemmy smaller in the long run, in my estimation.

Wether that's a good or bad thing depends on how you view the internet and what you want from it, to me it's a little of both because I bet I won't see any of the niche communities I subbed to on reddit pop up here for a good long while (ex a community for the model of car I own, smaller videogames, hobby work, etc). But also it means that there will be less low-effort content - theoretically. You win some you lose some, I'm interested to see the state of both Reddit and Lemmy in a year from now.

On a more real note though, a bunch of the smaller communities I was part of on reddit, and nearly every specific gaming sub I was in aren't here, or at least aren't anywhere near as active.

Yeah if someone thinks I and people I'm friends with shouldn't exist than I'm not gonna want to work with them. American Republicans are actively trying to remove any legal protections or rights trans (and LGBT in general) people have, and anybody who shares their views is helping them along. Why on god's green earth would I see that as anything less than an existential threat?

Planetside 2 - someone else already mentioned it here, but it's the only game in it's genre and nothing else really comes close to what it offers (persistent 1v1v1 +300 player battles across infantry, land, air, and sea). It's been kicking for over a decade now and I'm not sure what could replace it if or when it finally kicks it. It's truly singular, and responsible for some of my fondest memories in gaming. It's also free!

I think reddit's staunch hatred for artists is pretty gross personally, I'm very much in favor of letting artists advertise in the manners outlined in the op.

Once post tags/flairs are implemented it'll be easy enough for folks who aren't interested in character art filter it out, and people who are, to actively search for it.

Art is, now, a pretty ingrained part of the DnD/TTRPG culture and I think we should celebrate or at the very least, aide in the self-supporting of the people who create it.
