I'm no climate scientist, but it looks to me like we might have skipped over oops.
I'm no Lemmy scientist, but judging by how the post ended up at c/RedditMigration , I think we're very much at the oops stage

That's a tough ask.

Compensation for delayed flights can't be claimed by person who paid for the tickets, B.C. tribunal rules | CTV News
Fuck these clickbait/malicious title wording for insinuating something entirely different than what the article is about.
The tribunal ruled in favor of the claimant if anything. AC has to compensate 2 out of the 5 passengers on claim for the delays because AC failed to proof that the delays were outside of AC's controls.
The other 3 family members were denied because the claimant who paid for the ticket claimed it on their behalf; and since they're not the affected passengers themselves there's no standing.
The tribunal pretty much out right says the rest of the passengers can file their own claim for their delayed flights.

Japan's Fukushima nuclear plant prepares to release diluted radioactive water into the sea
If it makes you feel better, to put things in perspective, the planned discharge of 22TBq per year is actually a lot lower than what other countries with normally operational nuclear power plants are already doing, including Korea.
I'm not an expert in this field either and perhaps there should be a bigger discussion/education to be had if we should all be dumping so much stuff in the ocean, but IMHO if it was deemed safe when Korea discharged 211TBq into the ocean in 2020, this shouldn't change your mind either.

Can I get UberEats to stop recommending to "bundle" alcohol from a liquor store to your order?
I'm just bouncing ideas off and not sure if it works like that, but maybe you can try creating a teen account and link it to your main one.
Recently I noticed there's an option to let me link teen accounts(and other adults) under a family that lets them order but pay with the primary account.
Assuming teens won't be able to buy alcohol, perhaps those recommendations would go away too?

Request: Update link handling
I was just thinking about this. The issue may be more complicated than it looks.
Currently Jerboa handles the links of only a handful of instances. As Lemmy as a whole grows and more and more instances pop up, it's just unrealistic to have the app handle 50 million server hosts.
Can opening links be something handled internally, at least initially, like maybe checking against the home instance's list of federated servers?

These are Canada's new tax brackets and income tax rates in 2024
Reply in thread
Just because you're in the same bracket it doesn't mean you end up paying the same overall percentage at the end of the day.
Like the other comments mentioned, there's a basic personal amount to be deducted from so they don't start taxing you the first dollar you make.
Also in those income levels you get more back in the form of Canada Workers Benefit, a refundable tax credit which alone is probably enough to put your tax balance in the negative. On top of that you get more GST/HST credit, and if you're in BC a $0 deductible with pharmacare.

I thought it'd be useful for people who are only subscribed to /c/piracy from another instance to become aware of the communities local to this one
Good call!
Did my part and searched them on my home instance and subbed to a few of them.
To the folks who are trying to do the same on their home instances, you can actually just paste the URL directly into the search field (eg. https://lemmy.dbzer0.com/c/switchpiracy) instead of doing the ![email protected] syntax.
When you click search it may return no results or just a post or two, but just wait for about 10 seconds or so you'll see the community pop up. Like so.

What small gift can I bring to someone who is feeling down?
Reply in thread
When it was my birthday she bought me a slice of cake which was nice though and gave me a little note.
Sounds like a small gift + a card/note might be a good idea then.
I would suggest something simple like a coffee card, but if you want to be mindful of caffeine intake for pregnant women then maybe an alternative like a box of caffeine-free tea that's soothing and calming? Or perhaps aromatherapy in the same vein if she's not allergic to scents?
Moms with small children are stressful enough on a good day let alone going through rough times, something soothing can hopefully make her day more endurable.
Plus a get well card(or something appropriate for the event) with a short hand-written note can go a long way.

As per usual, Redditors took the matter in their hands and compiled every official response into a readable format.
Unless it was a dig at spez for not giving any actual answers, because ultimately there were none.

What is an obscure piece of media or videogame that you think nobody else here has heard of?
There was this PC FMV game back in the early 90's where there's this woman doing all kinds of things that gets herself killed and all you do is flip the right switches at the right time and enter 3 digit codes.
One of the earlier games I had on a CD-ROM. Back then it wasn't a disc tray. You eject an entire disc jewelcase-like thing and put your cd inside the case and shove it back in like a floppy disk.

Maybe if you use the widely circulated ones.
I can imagine plenty of people will start(have been) dumping rental carts from ie. the library.
If those dumps loaded onto the mig are indistinguishable from the original and Nintendo starts banning those, they risk banning a lot of other legitimate players who also rented and played on those carts.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it didn't use to be an issue to Nintendo because you had to install the xci and that was detectable. Now you can run the game off the cart directly.
